Live Virtual Workshop Class: Hands-on Experience
"It might just be time to start building the plane of your dreams."
Plan now to join us for our next hands-on live virtual workshop next month from the comfort of your own home. Participants from around the country will be joining virtually to build their own rudder tail section of the popular Zenith STOL CH 750 Super Duty in a one day workshop class on Friday, November 6. We'll ship the rudder kits (and needed tools) to participants' homes and will broadcast a live interactive video-conference (via Zoom) of the build class so that participants can go through the entire rudder build experience with the guidance of factory professionals.
Virtual Rudder Workshop Class: Friday, November 6, 2020: Order the rudder kit (and any needed tools) now to have it to shipped to you (by UPS) in time for the workshop class on November 6. Call or email with any questions about this special event.
Kate O’Connor, senior editor at AVweb, tackled building a Zenith rudder starter kit in her apartment's spare bedroom earlier this year as part of Zenith's first virtual rudder class and concluded, "it was just plain (plane?) fun!"
Order your rudder starter kit for the popular new STOL CH 750 Super Duty for under $500 and have it shipped to your home where you can get started building your very own aircraft! Then, choose to build the rudder on your own (guided by the assembly manuals) or participate in the next online virtual rudder build class, Friday, November 6, guided by a Zenith factory professional.
More about the STOL CH 750 Super Duty rudder assembly: When it was first introduced, AVweb's Paul Bertorelli (pictured) built the entire rudder assembly for the STOL CH 750 Super Duty (in just two hours) to experience first-hand how simple the kit is to assemble. Check out his video report as he builds the rudder and flies the Zenith STOL CH 750 Super Duty.
Join us in Florida for Zenith Aircraft's kit aircraft building workshop at Sun 'n Fun's Holiday Flying Festival in December!
Zenith Aircraft Company is heading to sunny Florida for Sun 'n Fun’s Holiday Flying Festival (and Car Show) in early December to host its popular hands-on kit aircraft building workshop. The two-day workshop will be held December 3rd & 4th (immediately before Sun 'n Fun's Flying Festival), at the Buehler Hangar on the Sun 'n Fun Expo campus in Lakeland, Florida. Members of the Lakeland Aero Club have been building a Zenith CH 750 Cruzer kit airplane at the Buehler Hangar this past year (Check out this video to learn more about this project).
Zenith Aircraft’s hands-on workshops are designed primarily for first-time kit airplane builders and have become popular with sport aviation enthusiasts who are considering to build their own aircraft and are unsure if they have the required skills, workspace and tools. During the workshop each participant builds and assembles their own Zenith aircraft rudder tail section from a standard Zenith kit. The two-day workshop concludes once participants have successfully completed assembly of their own rudder tail section of the aircraft.
In the process of building the rudder assembly, participants tackle many activities including learning how to read drawings (blueprints) and work with assembly instructions (manuals) under the expert guidance of factory staff. They learn the procedures for putting together an aircraft assembly, including drilling and blind riveting. In the end, they have an assembled rudder that is ready to install on a Zenith kit airplane.
“The rest of the kit is constructed the same way as the rudder, using the same tools,” said Zenith Aircraft's Sebastien Heintz. “Participants get far more out of the workshop than just a finished aircraft rudder: they go home with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to build their own airplane. Most importantly, they learn that kit building is enjoyable and something that can engage the whole family. Many of our prospective builders bring their spouses or other family member, who often encourage them to move forward with the rest of the kit. With modern technology, such as final hole size CNC match drilled parts, and good instructions, aircraft construction has become much easier than most people think.”
The hands-on workshop is an excellent way to learn about building your own (amateur-built) kit airplane and about the many advantages of owning and flying an airplane that you’ve built yourself. Kit aircraft is a segment of general aviation that is growing (while much of general aviation activities continue to decline year over year). For many, building an aircraft is a very rewarding experience, and today’s modern kits make it easier and quicker to build than even before.
Standard workshop fees are $375.00 (or $425 for the CH 750 Super Duty model) and include the complete rudder kit for a Zenith aircraft. Additional participants are encouraged to attend and can participate for free. To learn more about the workshop program visit zenithair.com or call Zenith Aircraft directly: (573) 581-9000 (Mon – Fri, 8 – 5 Central). Prior registration is required for the rudder workshop. Make plans now to participate at the Florida December workshop and Sun ‘n Fun’s Holiday Flying Festival
Sun ‘n Fun’s Holiday Flying Festival and Car Show officially kicks off at 1 pm on Friday, December 4th, and runs through Saturday, December 5th. A highlight of the event includes a STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) competition on Saturday afternoon: Come and watch Jon Humberd with his “Super 701” as well as Viking Aircraft Engine's STOL CH 750 Super Duty (powered, of course, by the popular Viking Honda engine conversion) compete at the national STOL event. Other planned activities include airplane displays (with homebuilt / kit aircraft), aircraft camping, live music, and more!
Check out Mark Pensenstadler's YouTube video channel, Kitplane Enthusiast, as he chronicles the entire construction, from start to finish, of his Zenith STOL CH 750 Super Duty that he recently started to build (from a standard Zenith kit). Mark recently completed a beautiful Zenith CH 750 Cruzer.
Also, check out and subscribe to Adam Andrews' YouTube channel, Aeroworks Productions, as he builds his own Zenith STOL CH 750 Super Duty from a Zenith kit, with informative episodes on "beginners guide to airplane tools" and "FAA 51% rule."
Now is a good time to start building your own aircraft, (or to continue to build your project if you're already a builder). Getting started building your own aircraft is now even easier than ever. Call Zenith Aircraft to discuss getting started on your own project: 573-581-9000 (Mon – Fri, 8 – 5 Central).
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are limiting visitor activities at the Zenith kit aircraft factory to follow social distancing and other rules in affect at the time, to protect both visitors and employees. However, we are open for factory visits by appointment and we have resumed some in-person activities such as hands-on workshops and demo flights (by appointment and with some restrictions).
