Tail Kits for the popular Zenith CH 750 Cruzer are now shipping!
The CH 750 Cruzer, Zenith's newest kit aircraft design introduced earlier this year, is now shipping to customers. Tail kits (rudder, elevator and stabilizer) are now shipping, and fuselage kits will be ready to ship in the new year.
The Zenith CH 750 Cruzer is the "on-airport" version of the popular STOL CH 750 "off-airport" light sport utility kit plane, famous for its roomy cabin with comfortable side-by-side seating and easy cabin access from both sides.
The Cruzer is the latest kit aircraft model from Zenith Aircraft Company, and complete kits for the all-metal high-wing aircraft promise to be even quicker and easier to build than previous Zenith kits, with extensive use of final hole-size match-drilling of supplied kit parts. The Cruzer features an all-new airfoil supported by a single stream-lined strut. Compared to the STOL CH 750, the empennage has also been redesigned for its new mission, with a symmetrical stabilizer. The vertical tail features a fin and rudder (replacing the traditional all-moving vertical tail design of the Chris Heintz STOL series).

The CH 750 Cruzer shares the same firewall as the sleek low-wing Zenith CH 650 and the STOL CH 750, making the same engine choices available across all models. Last month, Zenith flew the STOL CH 750 powered by the new 100-hp Rotax 912iS engine. The flight was the result of a collaborative effort involving Zenith Aircraft Co., Rotech Research Canada, Ltd., which installed the engine, and Skytek Aircraft Services, which assembled the airframe and developed the engine installation kit. "Both the aircraft and the engine performed flawlessly," said Sebastien Heintz, president of Zenith Aircraft. "We put 7.5 hours on the CH 750 on the first day and had no squawks. Rotax has done it right." First Flight Video Clip | Rotax 912iS engine and installation explained |
|
Zenith kit builders have always been presented with a wide choice of engines to power their kit aircraft, and Zenith Aircraft Company has long promoted the development of new engine developments for light aircraft. Popular aircraft engine choices include UL Power, Continental, Lycoming and auto conversions such as Corvair and Viking (Honda) installations. The new Rotax 912iS engine offers considerably more redundancy, increased efficiency, reduced pilot workload and is certifiable. It operates without primers, carb heat, or mixture controls. The engine and accessories are monitored constantly by a built-in computer that alerts pilots to any issues that arise on the ground or in the air. While installation of the fuel-injected 912iS is somewhat more complicated than the standard, carbureted 912ULS engine, complete installation kits for the Rotax 912iS engine, along with detailed instructions, are available from Skytek Aircraft (through Zenith Aircraft Company). |

Medicine on the Move in Ghana (Africa) has been using a Rotax 912iS engine in their STOL CH 701 sky jeep over the past year, testing the engine in the harsh African environment. The organization uses the Zenith for health education drops over rural Africa:
|
"...we are a bit like a 'sensible Santa' in our part of the world... we fly over the African Bush and look for communities that need health education and then drop them a package from the air! (no chimney, no reindeer, no toys)... our Rotax 912iS powered 701 works really hard... and today we dropped over 100 packages to rural communities." Photos and more info

Learn About Building Your Own Aircraft: |
If you have yet to attend a Zenith workshop at the kit aircraft manufacturing factory in Mexico, Missouri, plan to attend one in 2014! Here's the schedule for the next few months:
Zenith Aircraft Company's factory workshops have become popular with sport aviation enthusiasts, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in building their own Zenith Aircraft kit plane. Participants get to actually start assembling kit parts under the direction and guidance of factory professionals, and "graduate" from the workshop upon completing construction of their own aircraft rudder tail section for one of Zenith Aircraft Company's popular kit aircraft designs, including the Zenith CH 650 cruiser or the high wing Zenith CH 750 series.
|
|
This workshop is held over two days (all day Thursday and Friday morning), with participants assembling the complete rudder tail kit of the aircraft from stock rudder kit parts. Some of the skills learned in the construction of the rudder assembly include: reading the drawings and assembly manuals, measuring, drilling, de-burring, and blind riveting, as well as cutting and filing sheet metal parts. Once complete, the rudder tail section is ready to install on an actual airplane and each participant keeps the rudder that they have assembled themselves. The rudder kit that is built at the workshop is constructed the same way as the rest of the kit airplane, and thus provides an excellent introduction to simple all-metal light aircraft construction.
Roger Dubbert, Zenith's demo pilot and a staff workshop coordinator, states: "The workshop makes it easy for first-time builders to learn all about building their own plane - they learn about the required tools, skills, and workspace by spending a couple of days on actual construction."
Workshop participants are also offered a demo flight in the aircraft. Spouses, family members, and friends are encouraged to attend and to take part in the rudder kit assembly (at no additional cost), making the workshop a fun getaway for a few days.
Additional workshops are held in Canada (Zenair Ltd.) and on the west coast (Quality Sport Planes). Zenith Aircraft Company's international dealers also hold hands-on kit-building training sessions and workshops.

|
New technology, such as extensive use of CNC drilling and cutting equipment in the kit parts manufacturing process, makes building a kit aircraft quicker and easier than ever before, while Zenith's 20-year experience in the industry assures builders with available expert technical support and quality blueprints and assembly manuals (which include detailed step-by-step photo assembly guides). Zenith's kits are supplied complete, with standard factory-riveted wing spars, factory welded steel parts, and all hardware included to complete the aircraft. Kit builders can choose to "buy-as-they-build" from component (section) kits or they can purchase the full kit in one large box.

Follow Up Report: EAA Staff Members Build a Zenith CH 750 Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) staffers at headquarters in Oshkosh (Wisconsin) are continuing to build their own STOL CH 750 light sport utility kit airplane from a complete kit supplied by Zenith Aircraft Company.
The EAA staff project was launched last year with full support from EAA senior staff: "This is a fantastic opportunity for EAA to show our love and appreciation for homebuilt airplanes. The response received from interested staffers has been phenomenal..."
Since starting one year ago, assembly of the airframe is essentially complete. EAA staffers are chronicling the entire Zenith STOL kit building project and their progress. View and subscribe to the EAA Zenith Project blog to receive notifications by email as they make progress on the kit building project, and leave them your comments (with your building suggestions and tips!) as well as words of encouragement: zenith750project.com

Flying On Your Own Wings
| |
Subtitled " A complete guide to understanding light airplane design," this book by designer Chris Heintz
is a must-read for Zenith builders and pilots.
Some have said that if God had wanted us to fly, he would have given us wings. And yet, we were given the ability to dream, to think with our heads, to have courage in our hearts, and to build with our hands. Truly, we have been given everything we need to build and fly our very own aircraft!
In the 300 page book, Heintz shares his knowledge of and insights into the art and science of light aircraft design. Basic mathematics, essential aerodynamics and stress analysis are just a few of the chapters of this book, with fascinating personal anecdotes, history and photos throughout. Shop more books.
