Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of Providence, authorized the recruitment, training and ordaining of a new class of Permanent Deacons for the Diocese of Providence. This is the first diaconate class recruited since 2008; begun in 2016, this new class will be ordained Saturday, October 24, 2020.
The order of the diaconate is an ancient order of the Church re-instituted as a permanent office by Pope Paul VI at the suggestion of the Second Vatican Council (1963-65). While every priest is ordained a deacon as a necessary step towards ordination to the priesthood, ordination to the diaconate does not have to be transitory. Many are ordained to what is called the permanent diaconate and serve as deacons the rest of their lives.
Deacons are men who love God and love the Church; they feel called to serve in a more committed way. The role of the deacon is to be a helper of the bishops and priests and to proclaim by his life the Church’s call to serve the needs of others. Join us in praying for the nine men being ordained to the Permanent Diaconate.

An update on the new Mausoleum of Saints Peter & Paul at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston
The Mausoleum is approximately 80% complete & is on time for completion in early 2021
As we are baptized Catholic, our Church teaches that - - regardless if one is to be interred/entombed full-body or cremated - - where we are to rest should be consecrated. We must respect the reverence of the body and our diocesan Catholic Cemeteries are making every effort to symbolize our faith in all areas of our cemeteries.
Making your pre-need plans ensures that your loved ones understand how you would like to be laid to rest and eliminates any difference of opinion of your heirs on how to proceed.
Please know that pricing has already increased from "Pre-Construction" to "Construction" pricing. It is highly encouraged that all who want mausoleum space for their resting place begin the process and consider discussing options with the Saints Peter & Paul Mausoleum Family Counselor, Bill Herren.
