PROVIDENCE — For the diocese, it was a local ordination with an international audience.
On Saturday, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin ordained to the priesthood Rev. Mr. Hiep Van Nguyen, a native of Vietnam. Many of his family members gathered there to watch the live stream of the ordination at the parish of his brother, who is also a priest.

PROVIDENCE — Arriving in the early evening at Fatima Hospital, Father Richard Narciso — his anxiety level already raised due to the circumstances — listened intently as Gloria, the nurse assigned to guide him, detailed the procedures he would need to follow in order to mitigate his risk of falling prey to COVID-19, the same illness afflicting the patient he was here to anoint.
Catholic Communications helping community stay spiritually connected through pandemic
PROVIDENCE — When the coronavirus pandemic caused local churches to close for public worship for nearly two months,
there was an immediate need to keep the faithful of the Diocese of Providence spiritually connected while socially distant.
The diocesan Office of Communications responded to the limitations the coronavirus placed on the community by immediately collecting and sharing an up-to-date schedule of televised and live-streamed Masses in the diocese and beyond.
