Summer listening: H=H podcast
H=H, the H is for Human is a podcast that presents content on the human side of HIV research education, affirming Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC), and sexual gender minority communities disproportionately impacted by HIV. The H is for Human interconnects communities, HIV/AIDS Research Networks, DAIDS, and the Office of HIV/AIDS Network Coordination (HANC).
The latest H=H episode features our very own Dr. Lance Okeke and collaborators Dr. Kenric Ware of South University and Russell Campbell of HANC discussing the Evidence2Practice program that is aimed at promoting the interest of students at Historically Black Colleges and University and Minority Serving Institutions in HIV science. E2P is funded by a supplement as part of the CFAR Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Pipeline Initiative (CDEIPI).

Quantitative Interns Begin Their Summer of HIV Research
This May, 13 graduate students began the Quantitative Methods for HIV Researchers Summer Internship program, which offers full-time summer internships for graduate students in the quantitative sciences to be immersed in HIV-related research. Each intern is co-mentored by a CFAR researcher and a quantitative sciences faculty member.
The interns are in session through the end of July, meeting in-person every Wednesday. Outside of the labs, the group has been getting to know each other and enjoying Durham, including the beautiful Duke Gardens. We look forward to hearing about their summers and their reflections on the program.

HANC Webinar - Diversity and Inclusion in HIV & AIDS Clinical Research: The Role of Language Justice (Pt 1)
Wednesday, July 12, 2023 |2-3pm EDT | Zoom
| |
The enrollment of Hispanic and Latinx people in HIV clinical research is low; however, these populations account for the nearly 30% of HIV incidence in the US (CDC, 2023). The limited provision of Spanish language services in the context of HIV research may contribute to the low enrollment of Hispanic and Latinx individuals with limited English proficiency. Organized by the Latinx Caucus of the Legacy Project, this webinar will contribute to understanding how language can be a key tool to help facilitate the inclusion of more diverse participants in the conduct of HIV research.
This webinar will be very relevant to investigators, study coordinators, program officers and managers, protocol specialists, community educators and recruiters, other clinical research staff and the general public.
