Thanks to the large group of folks who were able to join us for Coffee with the Council on July 25th when staff reviewed changes to MSAC programs for the new fiscal year. If you weren’t able to join and are curious, you can click here to view the slides from the session, and you’ll find future program-specific information sessions listed below.

One exciting update is that we are in the building process for a new Arts Capital grant program, the result of a 2021 bill and the inclusion of a $3 million appropriation in this year’s budget by Governor Moore and the General Assembly. We’re very excited! For the first time, MSAC will be able to offer capital grants, providing access to state capital funds for small to mid-sized arts and culture organizations. ARTS IN EDUCATION

Arts in Education Information Session

Join Arts in Education Program Director, Lizzie Morales, to learn about MSAC’s Arts in Education program on August 3, 4-5 p.m. This session will provide an overview of the Arts in Education Grant and Teaching Artist Roster and how these programs work to enhance arts education opportunities across the state. Participants will learn about policy and procedure updates to the program, including the published guidelines, application process, and the ways MSAC staff provides support and feedback. MSAC's Teaching Artist Roster Application is Open for Submissions!

Attention, Maryland teaching artists! Do you work in schools or community spaces to provide arts education experiences to the public? Then consider joining the MSAC Arts in Education Teaching Artist Roster! The next application deadline is September 1. For more information and to apply, click here.

Teaching Artist Office Hours

Teaching artists - join the Arts in Education program director and consultants in an informal, virtual setting to ask questions about the Arts in Education program, get support with the Teaching Artist Roster application, and/or exchange ideas and resources. The first FY24 Teaching Artist Office Hours session is scheduled for August 8, 4-5 p.m. Click here to register.

MARYLAND TRADITIONS

Call for Panelists: Heritage Award & Folklife Apprenticeship

Maryland Traditions is seeking panelists to evaluate submissions to the Heritage Award and Folklife Apprenticeship programs, both of which support community-based living cultural traditions handed down by example or word of mouth. Heritage Award panelists evaluate nominations for Maryland people, places, and traditions that represent long-term achievement in the traditional arts. Folklife Apprenticeship panelists evaluate applications to fund two-person teams in which traditional arts knowledge is passed from a master artist to an apprentice artist. We are looking for Maryland residents who are familiar with the Heritage Award or Folklife Apprenticeship, are traditional artists, are former recipients of either grant, or have backgrounds in arts administration or culture work. Welcome New Public Art Commissioner Jamie Heater; Welcome Back Re-Appointees

Governor Wes Moore has appointed Jamie Heater (Wicomico County), Chair of the Salisbury Arts Alliance, as the newest member of the Commission. Re-appointments include: Jerome C. Gray (Baltimore City), Molline Jackson (Prince George's County), and Rebecca Massie Lane (Washington County). Click here for more information about the Maryland Public Art Commission.

FY24 Public Art Across Maryland Grants

Updated guidelines for the FY24 PAAM New Artworks and Conservation grants will be available online this month. In fiscal year 2024 (July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024) there will be a single application deadline: January 26, 2024. A ‘How-to-Apply’ webinar will be held at noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANT & UPCOMING EVENTS

Independent Artists and nonprofit organizations - apply for up to $2,000 to support learning and growth opportunities through the Professional Development Opportunity Grant. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with a monthly review process. Click here to review the program's guidelines and eligibility requirements before applying.

NEW FOR FY24! Applications will be reviewed on a monthly schedule. Applications received in one month will be reviewed in the following month. For example, all applications received by July 31st will be reviewed in August.

ARTS CAPITAL

MSAC expects to launch a new Arts Capital Grant in early 2024! The program will distribute its first annual allocation of $3 million in capital funding among a number of small and medium-sized organizations and capital projects statewide. As research and development for this new program is underway, we want to hear from constituents and organizations interested in applying. We want to learn about your upcoming capital projects, funding needs, and what type of professional development and technical support offerings would be helpful to make your project, and grant application, a success.

Join an upcoming virtual listening session to share your thoughts and feedback. Register to attend a listening session on Wednesday, August 2 at 1 p.m. or Monday, August 21 at 11 a.m.
