Updates in Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy involves the delivery of high-energy X-ray beams, or electrons beams, for the treatment of cancer as well as non-cancerous (benign) disease. This therapy may also be used in preparation for stem-cell transplant in patients with certain blood cancers. The treatment may be curative if the cancer is localized and radiosensitive or it may be “palliative” to reduce symptoms such as pain by shrinking the tumor. Radiation therapy is often used in conjunction with surgery and/or systemic therapy (including chemotherapy, immunotherapy etc.). Radiation comes in many forms to treat different organs, sites and disease types.

Thesecondopinion recognizes the strength and courage of those who have faced a cancer diagnosis

A second opinion plays a vital role in a cancer patient's survivorship planning. Studies show that a second opinion provides reassurance, can help improve cancer care, provides treatment options, bolsters a patient's confidence and for some, it alters a diagnosis.

If you have a friend or a family member who is a cancer survivor give them a call to show how much you care.

To help us continue providing free, comprehensive, second opinions,  MAKE A DONATION and honor a cancer survivor(s).

An acknowledgment card/email will be sent to the cancer survivor(s).
When people talk about "survivorship," they are usually referring to navigating their life experiences and challenges resulting from their cancer diagnosis.
