Welcome to the 2022 Growing Season! It’s May – bringing warmer weather, longer days and the time of year when farm activities really gear up in Calvert County. This growing season promises fun celebrations, new ventures and a host of opportunities to support your local farmers, watermen and the people who grow our agricultural economy. Calvert County Farmers Markets help support local farmers, watermen and small businesses and allow you to feel good about your food sources. Offering a variety of fruits, vegetables, plants and baked goods, there’s something for everyone. The 2022 market schedule is: Tuesdays: CalvertHealth in Prince Frederick, 2:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays: Dunkirk District Park , 3:30-6:30 p.m. Saturdays: Sneade’s Ace Home Center parking lot in Lusby, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the North Beach Senior Center parking lot, 8 a.m. to noon This season the Maryland Market Money program will offer a dollar-for-dollar match for purchases made using federal nutrition benefits at the three participating farmers markets (all except Lusby). Life is SWEET in Calvert County! Explore Calvert County’s brand-new Sweet Treat Trail this spring and summer! Stretching from northern Calvert in the Twin Beaches, across to Dunkirk, and down Route 4 to the southern tip of Solomons, find locally owned bakeries, ice cream shops and other sweet businesses to explore and support. Along the trail, you’ll find delicacies like fresh-baked cookies and cakes, tasty kettle corn, donuts, extreme milkshakes, farm-fresh berries, ice cream and more. Children's Day on the Farm You don’t want to miss the 35th Annual Children’s Day on the Farm on Sunday, June 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum. This favorite family event focuses on farm life in rural Maryland. Local farmers donate animals for the petting zoo and farm equipment for display.

Buy Local Challenge Celebration Celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Buy Local Challenge! Save the date for an evening of farms, food and fun Monday, Aug. 1 from 5-9 p.m., rain or shine. Visit Serenity Farm in Benedict for a fun farmers market-style event featuring local farms and artisans, live music, food trucks and activities for the whole family.
