Next Steps for CASEL CARES
The CASEL CARES initiative was developed in response to heightened social and emotional needs during the circumstances of COVID-19. Our  resource list   has been revised to focus on key areas that are emerging such as SEL distance learning and supporting virtual teams. Thanks to support from The Allstate Foundation, our weekly  Friday webinars  continue to be offered for free and connect thousands of you with experts for helpful strategies and guidance. This week’s webinar with the National Equity Project (NEP) is titled Leading for Equity in Challenging Times: Our Role as Leaders to Catalyze Change for Our Collective Well-being . Register here .

Important Update on the 2020 SEL Exchange
The impact of COVID-19 on in-person convenings has provided an opportunity for innovation and creativity. With your health and safety in mind,  CASEL has decided to offer a virtual experience on October 15, 2020 in lieu of an in-person conference this fall .  Our current plans are to return to an in-person conference in October 2021. Thank you for your patience as we roll up our sleeves and get to work planning for this first-of-its kind event. Additional information on the virtual summit will be coming soon on our website and social media .
New Reports on States’ SEL Efforts
CASEL’s Collaborating States Initiative (CSI) recently released two complementary reports. The  CSI Theory of Action   report   lays out a blueprint for systemic SEL at the state level, including supporting activities, that can guide state efforts. The Emerging Insights Report highlights how specific states are advancing the theory of action through bold and strategic efforts to lay the important groundwork for systemic, equity-focused, evidence-based SEL.
Two New Federal Grant Opportunities That Support SEL
  • Due June 12, the Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) grant is a funding opportunity to increase the number of highly effective educators by supporting the implementation of Evidence-Based practices that prepare, develop, or enhance the skills of educators. Note that competitive priority #2 includes SEL-related efforts.
  • Due June 15, the Education Innovation and Research (EIR – Mid Phase) is available to provide funding to create, develop, implement, replicate, or take to scale entrepreneurial, evidence-based, field-initiated innovations to improve student achievement and attainment for high-need students. By applying to one or both grants, eligible entities can help ensure the promotion of high-quality, evidence-based SEL implementation throughout the country.
