To My Neighbors,

On June 5th, we commemorated Wear Orange, which is also known as National Gun Violence Awareness Day. We were joined by the Executive Director and members of CT Against Gun Violence.

This event followed the Governor’s signing of a gun safety bill that prohibits the sale and importation of pistols that can easily be converted into fully automatic machine guns. In addition, the bill closes loopholes and expands the definition of “firearm” to include major weapon components. This makes us the 4th state in the nation to pass a law prohibiting the sale of DIY machine guns. It’s a bill that I had testified in favor of and I was glad to see it passed. We are making our communities safer by making it harder to evade Connecticut’s gun laws.

Connecticut’s gun violence prevention legislation earns us the rank of 5th safest state Everytown for Gun Safety’s Gun Law Rankings. However the sad fact is that, while the total number of gun deaths in Connecticut decreased from 210 to 151 in 2025, a larger proportion of those deaths were suicides.

We must continue to enact legislation and prioritize initiatives to make it harder for guns to get into the wrong hands.

June is Pride Month:

On June 6th, we celebrated Pride Month at Town Hall. It was an honor to say a few words at the event.

We know there is still work to do to protect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, and to make sure that all the residents of our town and state are treated equally and are safe from discrimination. It's especially important for our children, so they can thrive in safe and inclusive spaces.

Update on Speed Cameras:

On Monday June 15th the RTM voted 100-60-3 in favor of the safety plan for speed cameras in school zones.

I’m pleased that the RTM voted for the safety plan, which is part of the state’s Vision Zero initiative. Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. The Greenwich safety plan is about reducing and preventing traffic fatalities.

As some of you may know, the RTM meeting had to be rescheduled due to a power outage that affected the whole town. I’d like to remind you that if you aren’t already enrolled, please sign up for the Town Emergency Alert System so you can stay informed about these types of events.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me at: Rachel.Khanna@greenwichct.gov or (203) 622-7706.

Best Regards,

Greenwich Department of Human Services Campership Fund

Last summer, 120 Greenwich children were able to attend summer camp through the GDHS Fund’s Campership Program.

That support didn’t just impact kids—it helped families maintain stability during the summer months by providing reliable childcare while parents worked.

When school is out, Campership steps in—and with rising camp costs, the need for this support continues to grow.

Your generosity stays right here in Greenwich, supporting children and the working families who rely on summer care.
