Hi Everyone,
I hope you had a great holiday season and are ready for all that 2020 has to offer. I am happy to share that we have made progress on our charter school and am writing today with some important updates in the sections below.

After careful consideration of the educational landscape, parent interest, and resources, we have made some important decisions regarding the RCA educational program and launch date:
- We will submit a charter petition for a TK-8 school. Previously, we had envisioned an elementary school serving only grades TK-5.
- We intend to submit our charter petition to Azusa Unified School District this spring for a Fall 2021 opening. Once our petition is approved this spring/summer, we will then have a full year to complete planning, hiring, and finalize our campus location.

As
volunteer board members we are committed to diversity, equity, transparent governance, fiscally-responsible operations, and enriched academics. We bring experience in K-12 school administration, community activism, real estate, health care, learning and assessment, and human resources, operations and finance.

We are looking to grow the board to nine members and are seeking a diverse representation of professional experience and backgrounds. If you are interested in learning more about serving on the RCA board, please email Sabrina Bow at

We have recruited two curriculum experts to help guide and develop our instructional program.

SCIENCE / STEM
Dr. Robin Gose is the CEO and President of
MOXI, The Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation. She leads the museum in fulfilling its mission of "igniting learning through interactive experiences in science and creativity.” Dr. Gose has been a STEM educator for more than 20 years in both classroom and museum settings.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS
Dr. David Costa serves as an assistant principal in the award-winning Long Beach Unified School District. Dr. Costa has served as both a classroom teacher and administrator. Most of all, he i
s deeply invested in developing school leaders, evaluating instruction, and effectively implementing Common Core State Standards.

In 2013, California moved away from the single-metric model of school accountability--the Academic Performance Index (API). Since 2017, all California public schools and districts--including charter schools--are evaluated on multiple indicators aligned to the
state's priorities for public schools, including but not limited to standardized test scores in English and Mathematics. Click
