King's Beach UV Pilot Program Updates

Pilot Update

The UV system was successfully restarted on Friday, June 20th and has been performing positively.

To mitigate the seaweed issue that affected the UV system's functionality, the UV team installed two screens at the Lynn and Swampscott culverts. We are actively monitoring and cleaning these screens to ensure they remain clear of seaweed and debris.

In addition, we expect to install the remaining sound blankets for the generator and pumps this week.

Beyond Walls Artwork

We are pleased to share that the artwork to be displayed on the UV pilot, curated by Beyond Walls, is now complete! Installation is expected to happen this week.

We appreciate the valuable feedback provided by abutters, which helped guide this process.

Beach Sampling Data

Residents can stay up-to-date on how the UV pilot impacts King's Beach bacteria levels by accessing our public data spreadsheet here. Since restarting on Friday, the pilot has successfully treated influent with high bacteria counts, consistently producing effluent with extremely low counts.
