Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson Street Naming
On March 6, 2023, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson attended a ceremony in Cutler Bay, Florida, to celebrate the renaming of a street in her honor. The road, located in our town where she grew up, is on Eureka Drive (SW 184 Street) between Caribbean Blvd to Old Cutler Road and will now be co-designated Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson Street. During the ceremony, attended by local elected officials, members of the community, and Brown's parents, she expressed her pride in her roots. She noted how important her experiences in the area shaped her into the person she is today. Brown hopes that the renaming of the street will serve as a testament to what is possible in the United States and inspire reflection among those who drive by.

Mayor Meerbott at State of South Dade
On February 16th, the State of South Dade 2023 event took place at the Homestead City Hall, where several municipal leaders presented the latest news to attendees. Among the notable presenters was our Mayor, Tim Meerbott, who gave an informative presentation on the state of affairs in the town. Other presenters at the event included Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgings, Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee, Luisa Santos, School Board Member District 9, and other Mayors from South Dade. The event allowed attendees to gain insight into the current state of South Dade and learn about the latest developments from the region's leaders.

Miami-Dade League of Cities 2023
The Miami-Dade County League of Cities' Board of Directors 2023 Meeting was a huge success, with over 80 elected officials in attendance. We were thrilled to host the meeting alongside the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center, bringing together leaders from across the county. The event featured insightful speeches from notable figures such as Juan Carlos Bermudez, Miami-Dade County Commissioner, MDCLC Executive Director Richard Kuper, and our Council Members Suzy Lord and Richard Ramirez. Eric Fliss, the Managing Director of the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center, also shared his vision for the arts in our community. It was an inspiring gathering of minds and ideas, all working towards a brighter future for Miami-Dade County.

Mayor Meerbott joins Miami Dolphins and South Florida community to raise over $10M for cancer research at the 13th Annual Dolphins Challenge Cancer
The Miami Dolphins held the 13th annual Dolphins Challenge Cancer (DCC XIII) at Hard Rock Stadium on February 25, 2023, which raised over $10 million to fund innovative cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The event boasted a record-breaking 5,641 participants, with the NFL's largest fundraising event now having raised more than $63 million towards the Dolphins' $75 million commitment to challenging cancer and supporting those impacted by cancer through the work of Sylvester. Mayor Tim Meerbott was in attendance, and the event gained support from the South Florida community and members of the Miami Dolphins organization. The DCC donates 100 percent of participant-raised funds for cancer research at Sylvester, which is South Florida's only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer center.

On Feb 23, 2023, Miami-Dade County and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers met with the public virtually to provide an update on the Miami-Dade Back Bay Feasibility Study. Coastal Mayors of Miami-Dade County Executive Session
On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, the Town Manager of Cutler Bay presented at the Coastal Mayors of Miami-Dade County Executive Session in El Portal, FL. The event aimed to discuss the water quality crisis throughout Miami-Dade County and find the most effective responses to protect and save waterways. The Town Manager of Cutler Bay shared his insights and experiences in dealing with this issue in our community. He also discussed measures taken in Cutler Bay to address water quality, such as the use of eco-friendly practices and the implementation of pollution control programs. The presentation provided valuable information for other mayors and officials to consider in their efforts to tackle this pressing issue.

Town Manager presented before the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust
On February 22nd, the Town Manager and the Director of Public Works presented before the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT). The presentation covered past, present, and future use of surtax funds in the Town, finalized projects, grant allocations, ridership reports, and upcoming development. The Town representatives shared a detailed breakdown of the CITT budget, outlining how the funds are allocated and how they are being used to improve transportation in Cutler Bay. They discussed how surtax funds have been used in the past, highlighting several completed projects and what the Town hopes to use them for in the future. The CITT Board was pleased with the Town's expenditures, expressing appreciation for the detailed presentation and transparency of the process. Town Council Meets with State Officials in Tallahassee
The Town Council, Town Manager, and State Lobbying Team recently met with Senators Ana Maria Rodriguez and Alexis Calatayud and Representatives Danny Perez and Alina Garcia in Tallahassee to discuss legislative priorities, including Bel-Aire Stormwater Improvements, Bel-Aire Park Improvements, Active Adults Services, and the US-1 Corridor Economic Development Plan. They also expressed environmental priorities and gratitude to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection officials for previous funding. Additionally, they met with FDOT District 6 Secretary Stacy Miller to discuss potential future projects, such as a pedestrian bridge for the Southplace City Center development. The meetings were productive, and the delegation is looking forward to the outcomes of their discussions.

Upcoming Restoration Site Cleanup
Join us for a day of environmental restoration! We're looking for volunteers to help plant native plants, weed, lay mulch, and remove light debris at the LivableCutler restoration site on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Bring your gloves, shovel, and sunscreen; we'll provide water, light snacks, and tools. Students can earn volunteer hours, and an adult must accompany volunteers under 18. Registration Open for Town of Cutler Bay Summer Camp
The Town of Cutler Bay Summer Camp is now open for registration for kids aged 6-12. The summer camp includes activities such as arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, swim days, weekly field trips, and much more. The camp hours are from Monday to Friday, starting at 7:30 am and ending at 6:00 pm. There are four different sessions available, starting from June 12 and ending on August 4.
