We write to share updates regarding various legislation in Congress related to providing immigration relief for Dreamers; and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) & Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders. Earlier today, the Alliance shared a letter with the U.S. House of Representatives from the Steering Committee strongly supporting H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act of 2019. You may find a copy of the letter here . Additionally, you can find the resources and materials provided to attendees of our telephonic briefing on the bill held earlier this month here . We expect the House to hold a vote on the bill in late April or early May.

Yesterday, Senators Durbin (D-IL) and Graham (R-SC) introduced the Dream Act of 2019, which is identical to the 2017 version, and would provide a roadmap to citizenship for Dreamers. Additionally, Senators Van Holland (D-MD), Cardin (D-MD), Feinstein (D-CA), and Kaine (D-VA) introduced the SECURE Act, which would provide a similar roadmap to citizenship for TPS and DED holders.

These Senate bills represent a commitment from Congress to protect both Dreamers and TPS/DED recipients and the Alliance looks forward to supporting the passage of these bills. For the Senate press release on the Dream Act of 2019, click here . In the near future, the Alliance will share letters and statements on the Senate pieces of legislation.

This coming week, the Alliance will share an advocacy toolkit for presidents, chancellors, and campuses to engage in advocacy around these critically needed bills. This toolkit will contain instructions on how to contact your Member of Congress, sample scripts and tweets, and partner resources and materials. Examples of materials include resources on district-by-district contributions of potential eligible immigrants.
