June 2019
Upham Woods wishes everyone a happy & safe Summer 2019!
Water Stories Summit
A global view of the Earth shows us that most of our planet is covered in water. A satellite view of Wisconsin would reveal something similar. We are pockmarked with lakes, striped with rivers, and home to critters that live in our 5.3 million acres of wetlands. Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center is dedicating 3 days to exploring, splashing, and collecting data on water in Wisconsin. We are proud to host the Wisconsin Youth Water Stories Summit this summer for young scientists, outdoor enthusiasts, and curious water lovers ages 8-17 years old from August 1st-3rd. Participants will paddle and collect water quality data along 4.5 miles of the Wisconsin River. They will have the opportunity to hike and discuss the role water has played in forming State Natural Area 77, and Blackhawk Island. Our young scientists will craft short scientific stories at the end of their day to document their experience. At the final campfire, our camp scientists will have the opportunity to present their story to their peers. Stories could be skits, written down, read, or present as a short video. Stories will be developed during their time here at camp.

We have limited availability and registration closes July 12, 2019. Learn more here:  https://fyi.extension.wisc.edu/uphamwoods/programs/residential-programs/wisconsin-water-stories/
Family Camp Review
Thank you to all of the families who joined us the first weekend of May, for Family Camp 2019. We had more than 120 individuals and 30 families join us for a fun filled weekend. We examined water critters, learned about reptiles and amphibians, played games while hiking, sung camp songs, made some s’mores, and much more!
