Time Capsule Conversation

"Celebrating 50 years of Service"

A timeless conversation with Rose Dickerson and Dr. Grier Merwin

On a bright February afternoon, in the Modest Conference Room at 415 Columbia Road, there was a sense of deep appreciation and kindness. Jay Trivedi, Dr. Henricks, and Dr. Ojeaburu sat around the table with two incredible people — Rose Dickerson and Dr. Grier Merwin — each having dedicated over 50 years of service to Upham’s Community Care. Together, they celebrated the legacy they had built and the lives they had impacted over five decades, exchanging stories and reflecting on the profound impact of their shared mission; they are part of a community bound by service, compassion, and a deep commitment to care.

Retirement Party -

Celebrating 29 years of Service

After nearly three decades of dedicated service, nurse Jacinta Ndugba retired. Jacinta was the first nurse to work at the Upham's PACE program when it began twenty-nine years ago and has been a cornerstone of the organization ever since. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, dancing, and the tremendous care she gave each and every participant at 1140. We wish her all the best on her next chapter.

HEALTH CENTER & PHARMACY COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTS

Dearborn STEM Academy

January 14th, 2025, Upham’s presented real-world problem scenarios to an amazing group of inquisitive and entrepreneurial 10th graders at Dearborn STEM academy. January 30th, they came back with solutions—bold, insightful, and spot on. They were vulnerable, open, and ready to tackle challenges with fresh perspectives.

These students blew my socks off! Their ideas were not only innovative but actionable, and I’m excited to explore how we can implement them. This kind of collaboration is exactly what fuels progress in healthcare and beyond. Looking forward to continuing this partnership!!!

UCC Mobile Eye Clinic Collaboration between

UCC and Sharon Public Schools

In November 2024, the Eye Department was approached with an opportunity to collaborate with Sharon public schools to assist displaced Migrant families

On December 11, the Mobile Eye Clinic was in service from 11:30am-3:30pm where

19 eye exam were completed and 11 glasses ordered.

Richard returned to Sharon on January 23, 2025 to fit and dispense glasses to the students at 5 different Sharon schools

MUSIC THERAPY AND ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES

On January 10, Jessica McNeice, PACE Engagement Manager, attended the first PAC (Patient Advisory Committee) meeting of 2025 and led a brainstorming session focused on enhancing PACE activity programming. PAC members emphasized the importance of music and movement activities in fostering a welcoming and engaging environment at the PACE centers. They expressed appreciation for the monthly live music performances in 2024 by the local group Toonfoolery, and requested more live music events. Additionally, they suggested larger group activities featuring a DJ, karaoke, and dancing.
