Domestic violence is defined as a purposeful pattern of coercive behavior used to maintain power and control over one's intimate partner. About 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men experience some form of domestic violence.
The Catholic Charities’ Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault program provides free and confidential services to those experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence in nine counties in southwest Iowa: Audubon, Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie and Shelby.

Catholic Charities Centennial Video

The Catholic Charities’ Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program serves anyone faced with these issues through a 24-hour crisis phone line, emergency shelter, court advocacy and much more. Since the program’s inception, more than 20,440 domestic violence survivors have been served.

Joe Happe’s leadership, advocacy and support has helped shape Catholic Charities into a strong organization committed to empowering individuals and strengthening families. Joe joined the Catholic Charities Board of Directors in 2012 and served for nine years. During his time, he helped the organization grow and move forward. He also helped support, uplift and acknowledge the needs and efforts of the Catholic Charities’ team and the important work they do every day.
“When I was asked to join the Catholic Charities Board of Directors I was thrilled,” said Joe. “My favorite part was seeing the impact people’s financial support, in-kind donations and volunteer work have on the individuals in our communities who really need the help.”

Brittani recently celebrated 9 years at Catholic Charities. She is a Legal Advocate for the Catholic Charities' Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault program, providing legal advocacy for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Brittani enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, traveling and fueling her newfound passion – attending concerts. Thank you Brittani for all you do!

World Mental Health Day
October 10 was World Mental Health Day. In honor of this day, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops released a novena for mental health to raise awareness and remove the stigma around issues concerning mental health.
| The Catholic Charities’ Counseling program provides therapy services for those who struggle with mental illness. Our licensed, professional therapists work with clients of all faiths and backgrounds to address any issues they may be facing. | |
