“The little opportunities [for being humble and loving] are treasures,
they are like gold dust and we should have an enthusiasm for them.”

Talking with your Daughter about Racism

In the last few months, we have witnessed the tragic killings of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, which have brought new attention and outcry against discrimination and racism. It is not only hard to comprehend but even harder to explain. Many times we avoid talking about racism especially with our children. It is uncomfortable, and frankly we struggle with what to say. It is human nature to avoid conversations that are uncomfortable and we don’t feel prepared to have. However, we do know it is important to have these conversations with one another and our families. Below are some resources to help you have a dialogue about racism. If you have any further questions, please contact Upper School Counselor Katye Irwin

Reflecting on the Benefits of Quarantine

As we end the school year and Phase 1 of reopening, I think it is important we all take the time to reflect on the last few months. How will you look back on this time? Did you see positive changes in yourself? In your family? I saw the importance of leaving time unscheduled and enjoying the simple things like a walk with your family or talking to the neighbors. Many people discovered they could work from home and do it well. What is it that you discovered? I encourage you to talk to your daughter about what she learned through this experience and what things she would like to continue for herself or as a family.
