Upper School Updates

A Message from Mr. Barkman

Greetings, WCA family!

Have I told you recently how much I appreciate you and your children? We had a fantastic week last week with the Activate field trip for middle school, and three days with the high school students at Camp Thunderbird. Both events provided great times of getting to know one another better and having fun. The high school trip also provided time to think about life and dig into God’s Word. I’m looking forward to how the Lord will continue the work that He has begun among our students.

Update on Mrs. Dunkel

I wanted to give you a brief update on Mrs. Dunkel. She was involved in a car accident over the summer. For various reasons, her treatment was delayed, and when she was able to get checked out it was discovered that she had a concussion. Her recuperation has taken longer than anyone anticipated, but she is making progress. We are now expecting her to rejoin us sometime around the end of our first quarter of school. Please be in prayer for her as she works through the specific protocols necessary for a full recovery.

Wings of Worship

Lifting our Voices

Rehearsals are underway for the Wings of Worship Choir! All students in 7th-10th grades are encouraged to participate. The choir practices every Wednesday at 3 pm in the WMC Sanctuary. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from WMC Traditional Worship Music Minister Dr. Rob Ridgell.

Parents, please pick up your student at the Sanctuary at 3:45 pm.

Hawk Honor Guard

Honoring Our Flag

WCA is proud to introduce our Hawk Honor Guard, a club for 9th and 10th grade students. Club members will raise and lower the outside flags as necessary and lead flag ceremonies during chapel and other school events.

Meetings will take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month before school at 7:30 am. Join us for the first meeting on September 9 in the Youth Center.

STEAM Week & Book Fair

"Growing Seeds"

WCA will celebrate its first STEAM Week September 15-19. Our students will delve into the fascinating world of plants with projects throughout the week.

During that week, WCA will also host the Literati Book Fair. Middle school students will attend the book fair in person, but all students are encouraged to order online. Check out the Book Fair HERE.

High School Happening

Sowing Seeds at Hawk Haven

After school on Friday, September 12, our freshmen and sophomores will be "Sowing Seeds" at Hawk Haven, as they work on landscaping projects around the property. Participating students will earn service hours. Snacks will be served.

Please click HERE to RSVP and sign up to help with transportation and snacks. Thank you!

Coach's Notes

  • Last week was an exciting one for our volleyball and soccer teams, filled with great competition. The volleyball team triumphed in both matches on Thursday, while the soccer team continues to strive for their first victories of the season.

  • This week, all teams are in action, with plenty of opportunities to cheer on your Hawks at home games. We look forward to seeing you there, supporting our teams!

  • It's not too late to join the WCA Athletic Booster Club! Click HERE to register for the tier that is right for your family.
