Finishing the First Quarter

Greetings, WCA family! 

I am so thankful to work at WCA with such a great group of teachers and families. Not every day is easy, but I love my job. Be assured that you and your children are being prayed for regularly.

This week has been High School Spirit Week, and we’ve seen lots of fun and colorful outfits. Perhaps as you read this, both the High School Homecoming and the Middle School Fall Fest events will be in progress. I’m sure you will see lots of pictures in the weeks to come.

Reminders

• For students running for Class Representative or Upper School Executive Committee, those forms are (were) due by the end of the school day on Friday, October 3.
• Student government elections will take place on Wednesday, October 8.
• Wednesday, October 8 is also the last day of the first quarter of school. 
• Parent-teacher conferences will be finished by Tuesday, October 14.
• Report cards will be sent home on Thursday, October 16. 

I’ve had an opportunity this week to reflect on Ephesians 4:14-16: “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow up to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” (NIV) We are members of one another in Christ’s body. Thank you for the way you exemplify that so consistently.

Lost and Found Deadline

Check for missing items before Fall Break!

On Wednesday, October 8, all items remaining in Lost and Found will be donated. Please have your student check the Lost and Found in the Youth Center as well as the main office! Students have left a lot of very nice hoodies at school.

WCA Debate Club

Defending our Position

Students in 9th and 10th grade are invited to join the WCA Debate Club. Meetings will be each Wednesday during lunch in Room 101 starting October 15. Students will have the opportunity to join the National Speech and Debate Association. For more information from advisor Ms. Jacob, click HERE.

Fall Art and Talent Show

Using Our Gifts

Students in 2nd-8th grade and EC are invited to participate in the Fall Art & Talent Show and Bake Sale on Friday, October 24 at 6 pm. Sign up HERE to participate and HERE to donate to the bake sale. Bake sale proceeds will benefit the Independence Fund, an organization which supports wounded veterans.

Wings of Worship

Lifting our Voices

Wings of Worship performed for the first time at our JK/K Grandparents Day celebration! It's not too late to join... rehearsals are every Wednesday after school until 3:45 in the WMC Sanctuary.

Hawk Honor Guard

Honoring Our Flag

Honor Guard did a great job raising the flags at See You at the Pole last week! This week they will begin to perform an indoor flag ceremony for chapel each week. Join us October 7 at 7:30 am.

Join us for the Fall Weddington Kids Consignment Sale — our church’s largest fundraiser supporting both Weddington church ministries and vital local missions. Shop fall and winter essentials for kids of all ages from preemie to teen including clothing, shoes, toys, furniture, and accessories.

Join us Friday, October 17, at 6:30 p.m. for a night of fun and fellowship prepared especially for friends with special needs!

Mark your calendars for the October PTF meeting! All WCA parents are part of the Parent Teacher Fellowship and encouraged to attend monthly meetings. 

PTF involvement is a great way to fulfill Family Volunteer Partnership hours... and make friends!
