Jesus turns things inside out and upside down by calling you to look at the great paradoxes of life. For example, in his Sermon on the Mount, he begins with a series of paradoxical statements known as the Beatitude’s. To really understand these declarations, you must use what Charlotte Shelton calls quantum thinking. Quantum thinking is the ability to think paradoxically. For example, Jesus said, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” On its face, this idea must have seemed crazy to people living in a world in which power was taken by the strongest. For them, freedom came from wielding a sword and defeating your enemy. Therefore, the very idea that meekness could be a more powerful weapon then physical strength went completely against conventional wisdom. Yet, Jesus put this concept forth as one of his core teachings. In this way, Jesus demonstrated that he was a quantum thinker.
According to Shelton, “The skill of quantum thinking enables us to transcend the bounds of binary logic (duality) to create highly innovative responses to all of life’s challenges.” Furthermore, quantum thinking gives you the capacity to step outside of your linear reality to see life in an entirely different way.
