Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month | |
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. During this month, it is important to talk about preventative measures and cancer risk factors associated with colorectal cancer. According to the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), "Colorectal cancer awareness is important because many cases of cancer of the colon or rectum are preventable. Screening by colonoscopy can prevent this cancer because precancerous polyps found during the procedure can be removed at the same time. Furthermore, colonoscopy can also detect the cancer at early stages, when treatment is more likely to be successful."
UC-NCORP is actively contributing to the battle against Colorectal Cancer by participating in clinical trials to enhance the lives of affected patients. The links below contain the AACR's article about Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and NCI Cancer Stat Facts - Colorectal Cancer

Celebrating Women's History Month
Women's History Month celebrates women's contributions to history, culture, and society. It has been observed annually in March in the United States since 1987. At Upstate Carolina NCORP, we are proud to have many inspiring women leaders and staff who share their history, accomplishments, and insights on oncology medicine and research; they also continuously work hard towards bettering cancer health outcomes, reducing health disparities through community engagement, and emphasizing the importance of supportive stakeholders, and along with solid health policies to overcome inequities.
| According to the American Cancer Society, breast, colorectal, lung, cervical, endometrial, ovarian, and skin are the cancers that most often affect women. Learn about cancer facts related to women and recommendations regarding screening and prevention by following the link below to the American Cancer Society's "Cancer Facts for Women" | Additionally, this year, Upstate Carolina NCORP encourages everyone to read the article, “Women’s History Month: Women Who Shaped Oncology,” published by The Cancer Letter. The article highlights how The Cancer History Project is documenting the contributions of women in the fields of medicine and oncology research. | |
