Dear Friends and Neighbors,
It is with great sadness that we continue to mourn the loss of a New York City hero, Dr. Norbert Sander. Dr. Sander was a pivotal figure for our uptown community as the leader of the effort to rebuild the Armory Foundation and the Track and Field Hall of Fame that it houses. This was fitting for a man who remains the only New York City native to win the NYC Marathon.
The Armory Foundation is a testament of Dr. Sander's dedication to improving the lives and health of those around him. The "Doc's" sense of public service transformed the Armory from a deteriorating space into a world-class indoor track facility that will benefit future generations. This space is now treasured by our city athletes, housing the world-class Millrose games, among many other meets and track and field events.
Dr. Sander will always be remembered as a friend and a true ally of Northern Manhattan and I hope you will join me in remembering his legacy.
In memoriam,
