Uptown Updates - December 6
Sermon Series
What role do we play and what role does God play in our salvation? That question has divided Christians for centuries. Yet understanding the Bible's answer to that question helps us more deeply appreciate how great a salvation God has given us in Christ and just how securely, and assuredly, we can rest in his power to save us to the uttermost.

Uptown's Lessons & Carols services and receptions are a feast for the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and heart, and is one of our biggest outreach events of the year! And it takes many hands working together to pull it off. Staff Changes at Uptown
New Event & Volunteer Coordinator
Welcome to Cheryl Anne Butts, who is our new Event & Volunteer Coordinator! Cheryl Anne grew up in Charlotte and attended Furman University for college. She returned to the Charlotte area after graduation in 2007 and taught elementary PE for three years. David and Cheryl Anne married in 2009 and shortly after moved to Lake Lure, NC to work for Camp Lurecrest Ministries. They returned to Charlotte this past summer when David took a new job as a commercial property manager. They have two daughters, Jane (4) and Margaret (2), and have enjoyed settling back into Charlotte and putting down roots in the Uptown Church community. Cheryl Anne is looking forward to serving on staff at Uptown and joining in the task of bringing the gospel to bear on church fellowship and events.
Thank you to Brook Harding for her service as our Event Coordinator this past year. We appreciate all she did to create fun-filled and memorable events for the people of Uptown. The Vision Banquet, retreats, and Lessons & Carols would not have been the same without her last year.
Thank you to Braden Benson for his service as the Adult Education Intern for the past several years here at Uptown. He and his wife Victoria will move to Auburn, Alabama in December and are expecting a baby boy due in February. Braden will be a Pastoral Counselor for The Owen Center.
Welcome to Austin McCann , who is our new Adult Education Intern! Austin was born and raised in Memphis, TN and graduated from Mississippi State University (Go Dawgs!). After graduation, Austin worked for two years with RUF as an intern at Auburn University. During that time, he married his best friend, Alexandra Kwasny McCann. Austin and Alex moved to Charlotte in May and will be joining the church in December. Austin is a student at RTS Charlotte pursuing his MDIV degree and Alex works as a nurse on the Labor/Delivery floor at Novant Hospital. They have felt so welcomed at Uptown and are excited to get to know more members!
Current Adult Ed Classes Nov/Dec
In the Fullness of Time-
An Advent Story
Teachers: Jon Levy & Derek Rogers
Location: Resource Center

Angels announced it. A king and his advisors were perplexed by it. Wise men and simple shepherds were compelled to worship because of it. Even his own mother had a hard time believing that she would give birth to a savior. The birth of Jesus was an event unparalleled in human experience. This class will explore the history and theology of the greatest miracle ever: God the Son taking on flesh to save his people from their sins. Join us as we study the incarnation and birth of Jesus and are reminded of the wonder of Christmas.
Awe: Reorienting Our Captivation in a Fallen World
Teachers: Drew Harris, Chad Kraska, & Braden Benson
Location: 3rd Floor Boardroom

When was the last time you were struck with awe? Was it the trip you took to the mountains? The birth of a child? A wonderful work of art? We as humans were created by God for his worship, but because of the fall, our worship is now flawed. We love to be amazed by so many things, but often forget where our capacity of awe comes from. This class will address our fallen self-focus and help reorient our worship to the One who surpasses all others: God Himself.
