Uptown Updates: August 8th
Christ is our complete Savior. The world longs for a savior who can help them with their sin, help them approach God, help secure their future. As our complete Savior Christ is the perfect sacrifice who removes all our guilt and restores us forever to God. Christ is our perfect High Priest who allows us to enter the presence of the living God with confidence. Christ is the perfect assurance that our future will be spent in heaven with him. The Book of Hebrews extols the completeness of Christ as our Savior, which becomes a certain hope for all of God’s people.

How did you first come to faith in Christ?  Growing up in a believing home I can’t point to a time when I first came to faith, however, I can look back and see fruit in my life that isn’t my doing but Christ in me.
What do you do for a living?  Credit UW
What other Christian leadership positions have you held? 5th grade SS teacher, mentor group leader, roadies coordinator, LG leader.
Why do you believe you are being called to this office?  Attending Uptown I’ve grown to appreciate the Church’s importance in the life and calling of the believer, I want to help build the Church up.

How did you first come to faith in Christ? I grew up in a Christian home and a PCA church. I was converted at a young age. In many areas and even for prolonged periods of time, I have fallen well short of God’s glory in my walk with Him, but I have never not felt His hand in my life and the assurance of salvation.
What do you do for a living? I am Vice President of Development for Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) Charlotte. I help raise funds for student scholarships, core ministry and campus development at RTS Charlotte.
What other Christian leadership positions have you held? Husband to Wallace. Dad to Edwin, Anna and Milling. Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC. Executive Director of Westminster Ministries Foundation. Participant in Charlotte Leadership Forum.
Why do you believe you are being called to this office? For as long as I can remember, I have felt awe, love and a sense of duty towards the church of Christ. I think most everyone wants to be part of something bigger than their self, and the church has consistently been that for me. At the denomination level, I’ve known the PCA since it was formed and am thankful for its consistent handling of cultural and church issues from its inception to the present. At the individual church level, I believe Uptown Church administers preaching, teaching, discipline and governance as well as any church I know. Serving in the church world for most of the last 30 years, I have seen the messiness of fallen man’s imperfect exercise of God’s will for the church. Despite that, and fully aware that I am as fallen and imperfect as everyone else, I feel called to serve Uptown Church and its community of members as an officer.

How did you first come to faith in Christ? By the faithful nurturing of my godly parents at a young age.
What do you do for a living? I work for a operations and logistics task force within The United States Department of Justice.
What other Christian leadership positions have you held? I have lead and co-lead multiple Bible studies and am co-leading a life group now. I am also involved in the ministry at CRM (Charlotte rescue mission) where I will on different occasions lead worship with music and teaching. I am assisting the church now in better security practices. I also am a member of the welcome team and Music teams.
Why do you believe you are being called to this office? When I was growing up, I had two very godly men in my life that I looked up to, my grandfather and my uncle. Both were at times deacons and then elders in the church I grew up in. There were many qualities that I admired in them, but one that stood out was how much their love for God showed through their service for the church. As I grew and understood more of what it meant to serve as an officer in the church I felt the pull on my heart to serve as they did. This grew to the point of nomination, and as I thought and prayed about it, I said I would serve as far as could. I took the class, spoke about it with my prayer triad, and then with the elders. They were all very helpful in affirming externally what I was feeling internally.
Welcoming Bailey Greaves - New Children's Ministry Co-Director
Bailey grew up moving all over the country but claims Georgia as home. She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Child and Family Development. While in college she met her husband, Jake, through their involvement in a campus ministry, Cru. Following graduation, Bailey and Jake worked for Cru for several years at Georgia Southern University and Mississippi State University. In July of 2018, the Greaves moved to Charlotte as Jake started his career in the supply chain industry, and Bailey began taking classes at RTS in biblical counseling. The Greaves have an adorable 4 month old son, Asher. Bailey loves hanging out with friends, Jake and Asher, and her dog, Georgia! The Greaves have loved spending the past year at Uptown! Bailey can’t wait to get started working with the sweet children and families of Uptown Church!

Hebrews 12:1 says that we are to run the Christian life “surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.” This class will take a look at some of these great witnesses who have gone before us and lived remarkable Christian lives that have changed the world forever. These include Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, William Wilberforce, Elisabeth Elliot, and many others. Come join us for this class where we can be encouraged and motivated by examining the lives of those believers who have lived faithful lives for Christ.
