Uptown Updates
March 19th
In John 16:33 Jesus promised that in this world we will have trouble. When trouble comes it is easy to focus on ourselves, our circumstances or even our uncertainty, but John calls us to focus on Jesus, saying that he wrote this gospel that we might believe and have life. It is our hope that God uses each of these sermons to help you fix your eyes upon Jesus who is: the Great I Am, the bread of life, the light of the world, the resurrection and life, the good shepherd, the true vine and the way, the truth and the life. In the midst of trouble let us take heart, for Jesus has overcome the world.
Sunday, March 22nd
John 5:19-47
Coming Before the Judge
This weekly devotional is intended to help you fix your eyes upon Jesus, by providing a personally selected scripture passage and a song or hymn aimed at reminding you that Jesus is your rock, your redeemer and your healer.
'For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison...'
2 Corinthians 4:17
When I look to God’s creation in us I marvel...knowing full well I cannot rest my hope in the creation but in the creator. Only an artist can understand his art, so while I cannot fathom the depths of his plans for us as we embark on a new chapter, I can open my heart and let His spirit pour in. Through the strife I choose Christ, the only hope I ever knew.

“If the stars were made to worship..so will I.”

An Update from the Session
Interim Pastor: The Preaching Subcommittee has interviewed another candidate and has recommended him to the session. The session will interview him on Sunday. More to come in the weeks ahead. Please continue to pray for this process.

Youth & Families Pastor: McGowan's search for Uptown's next Youth and Family Pastor is underway, they currently have 5 candidates interested. The search committee has been established and we are working to begin the interview process in the weeks ahead.
Session: McGowan’s team is coming back the first weekend in April to work with the congregation to help us all start processing the events that have taken place at Uptown. The people of Uptown will be given the opportunity to sit with McGowan’s team, have questions answered and speak into the situation. We want to hear from you and will be letting you know more about the process as the time gets closer.
**We are still learning how COVID-19 will affect the above processes and will keep all informed of any changes or alterations to the mode and/or timing of these.**

Our prayer for you during this season is that you will heed the words of Philippians 4:6-7: "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

As concerns about COVID-19 continue, our hope is that rather than fear, this season would lead us all to a deeper faith in God, who gives us peace. Please pray for those who are directly affected. We also want to let you know that we have been and will continue doing what we can to ensure the proper precautions are in place.

Ways you can help - Mercy Opportunities
We realize COVID-19 has brought with it many new mercy needs both in our community and in the broader community. There are many ways you can get involved to reach out and love your neighbors, and still comply with the social distancing recommendations. We encourage you to follow through with local requests from your own neighborhood and school communities, or come up with your own. Additionally, you may reach out to any of our supported mercy ministries for current needs. We will highlight Brookstone Schools this week as a possible option for you:
Donations For Brookstone Families Impacted By COVID 19
Due to the impacts of COVID 19, Brookstone Schools has suspended its volunteer programs including lunch buddies, tutors and CHAMPS until further notice and the school has closed to students through March 27th. Instability of this magnitude affects our most vulnerable the swiftest. What may be an inconvenience for you can be an all out crisis for families on the edge. Brookstone is helping to offer relief to its families and we would like to continue to do so. Donations to the school that are earmarked for CV-19 will be used to directly affect our children through two methods. The purchase of gift cards for Wal-Mart and/or to assist families with the payment of bills or orders that can be done online. This includes, but is not limited to, city/county bills, rent aid and services like Amazon Grocery. Donations to Brookstone designated to "Other: CV-19" can be made to the school directly online at the link below or by mailing a check with CV-19 in the memo line to:
