Urban Forest Plan Survey

The Town of Herndon wants to hear from you!


The Town of Herndon, in partnership with consultants from the Green Infrastructure Center with funding from the Virginia Department of Forestry, is drafting a new Urban Forestry Plan. Help shape the future of Herndon’s trees!

Herndon Town Council and Planning Commission working together

Joint Work Session with Planning Commission and Town Council

Last month, the Town Council and Planning Commission held a joint work session to review several key initiatives shaping Herndon’s future. Discussion topics included an update to the Roadway Safety Action Plan, progress on the Herndon 2050 Comprehensive Plan and its accompanying market study and economic development strategy, as well as an update on the housing study.

Proposed FY27 Budget

The proposed FY 2027 Budget will be available in April in interactive detail at Herndon-va.gov/Budget. A comprehensive accounting of the proposed budget is presented, including narratives, charts and graphs that are easily navigated and accessible to all. The interactive tool allows taxpayers to enter their personalized tax amounts and see how their taxes are allocated.


By law, the Herndon Town Council must adopt a FY 2027 Budget by June 30, 2026, with enactment to begin on July 1, 2026, the first day of the new fiscal year. The council will hold two public hearings on the proposed budget, on Tuesday April 14 and Tuesday April 28, both beginning at 7pm in the Ingram Council Chambers. Comments may also be submitted online at Herndon-va.gov/Budget or via email at budget@herndon-va.gov.

VA State Bar Member Needed for ARB/HDRB

The Town of Herndon is seeking a member of the Virginia State Bar to serve on its Architectural Review Board (ARB) and Historic District Review Board (HDRB).

  • Term: Three years
  • Compensation: $3,000 annually
  • Meetings: First and third Wednesdays of each month, 7:00 p.m., in Herndon
  • Residency: Town resident and qualified voter.

 

This attorney position plays an important role in reviewing and considering exterior modifications to structures within the Town. The ARB has jurisdiction over all structures except detached single-family homes, while the HDRB oversees properties within the Historic District.

Special Collection Requests

Did you know that the Town of Herndon offers scheduled pick-up for items too large to fit in your trash bins? You can schedule a pick-up date that works for you without having to wait for a designated day.

 

Residents can use this service to responsibly dispose of items such as furniture, large appliances, scrap metal, and household debris.

 

Special collections for bulk items can be scheduled online here. A nominal fee applies for this service.

 

Town residents can also dispose of most refuse seven days-a-week at either of Fairfax County’s transfer stations, the closest of which is located at 4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax, VA 22030. Glass recycling remains available at the purple containers located at the Public Works Shop at 1481 Sterling Road.

 

The town does not offer Electronic waste collection, residents may use one of Fairfax County’s electronic waste drop-off locations, which are available to all Town residents.
