The number of COVID-19 cases is rising, along with worries and concerns: Am I doing all that I can to stay safe from the coronavirus? Why did I test positive if I wore a mask and isolated? I haven’t been infected though I’m not taking any precautions, so is this even real? It can be hard to keep up with the news with so many new developments.

Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike urged anyone who recently traveled and/or celebrated Thanksgiving with people outside their household should quarantine and get tested about seven days after the holiday, even if they don’t have COVID-19 symptoms. They should get tested sooner if they have symptoms and should encourage the people they gathered with to get tested, as well.

To protect patients, staff, and the University of Chicago Medicine community, NO VISITORS are being allowed at the University of Chicago Medical Center because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This change begins Wednesday, November 18. Limited visitation will be allowed for the pediatric patient population. Read More

Is it COVID-19 or the flu? |

This year, flu season, allergy season and the COVID-19 pandemic are all colliding. Since the flu and COVID-19 are both types of respiratory viruses, they present with very similar symptoms. And seasonal allergies can have some of the same manifestations, as well. Only a test can determine if you have one of these viruses or if you can rule them out. Read More

Diabetes Wellness Talks: "Whole Grains"
Monday, December 7 @ 12:00pm

Join us as we discuss strategies about how to modify your meals to help reduce the risk of diabetes as well as present strategies to help manage diabetes. In addition to increasing your knowledge about nutrition and diabetes, participants will be provided with resources and tools to help implement the strategies discussed in the presentations. Monday, December 7th will focus on Whole Grains.

University of Chicago Medicine begins recruiting participants for phase 3 COVID-19 investigational vaccine clinical trial |
|
“We are looking for individuals from all walks of life to participate in this study,” said trial leader Habibul Ahsan, MD, Director of the Institute for Precision and Population Health at UChicago Medicine. “This includes healthy adults, but also individuals with comorbidities, all genders, older adults, and people of all races. We want to be sure that the community our hospital serves is well represented in this trial.”

South Side Health Transformation Project |
|
Since early September, more than 500 South Side residents, healthcare providers, faith leaders, elected leaders, patients and more have shared their input and ideas on what makes a healthy community. We’ve been working on a model to address those needs.
For information and ongoing updates, we have developed a website which features the results from our 11 community listening sessions, community-wide survey responses and summary reports from our two large group community meetings as well as the latest on the proposed healthcare transformation model, recent news articles, resources and other helpful content about moving this process forward and how you can participate. Bright Star Community Outreach Counseling component is dedicated to providing services that minimize negative factors that cause violence and increasing protective influences that yield positive outcomes. Inspired by the work of NATAL in Israel, BSCO uses trained faith leaders and mental health professionals as trauma counselors to provide counseling services through a helpline and community ambassadors. Services are open to people of all beliefs and will only incorporate faith when requested.

FREE Yoga and Pilates Classes

Join the Community Fitness Program for FREE virtual fitness classes during the COVID-19 quarantine.
Classes are provided every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 8:15 am-9:00 am on zoom. Mondays will focus on yoga and pilates while Wednesdays and Fridays will be cardio and aerobics focused. All ability levels are welcome to join!
