Urban Masterclass Network Series
Upcoming Virtual Work Event

When: Thursday, August 27, 2020
Time: 6:00 P.M. (PST)
Platform: Zoom Video-Conference

We are providing the Urban Masterclass Network Series with coaching and networking opportunities designed to help you walk in wholeness, thrive with economic stability, and be aware of social responsibility.

We want to encourage more African Americans, people of color, and other under-represented populations to fight for environmental justice and get involved with urban planning. So often our community screams that we were not involved with urban plans for our community. In addition, there are climate and environmental impacts to our communities that need our attention.

The communities hit hardest by environmental and climate impacts are primarily communities of color — and those least responsible for creating the problem. “People of color are more likely than white people to live alongside power plantsoil refineries and landfills.” (from the LA Times’ Sammy Roth:  Why communities fighting for fair policing also demand environmental justice). (https://sandiego350.org/blog/2020/06/06/climate-justice-calls-for-racial-justice-end-to-white-supremacy/)

Our young people care! Let’s give them the tools to voice and fight for justice. Let's make sure that elected official know that we care.

This second session, "Environmental Justice: Shaping our Cities", will focus on tips issues and impacts in our communities of color; engaging in the planning process; and career opportunities.

2020 Elections and Voting
The 2020 general election is less than 71 days away and exercising your right to vote has never been more important for the future of this country. The COVID-19 coronavirus has posed a unique threat to our Democracy by forcing millions of Americans forced to self-isolate and pushing back primary elections across the country. We have worked with Congress and our partners to push for absentee voting and voting by mail, but it is up to you to register to vote and encourage your friends, and family, do the same.

Step 1: Register to Vote
Step 2: Check your Voting Options
Step 3: Know your Candidates, Review the Data, Know Your Issues
Step 4: Know Your Polling Location
Step 5: Vote, Vote, Vote

The coming election is more than just about who will be sitting in the White House for the next four years. Voters will decide who sits in Congress, our state capitols, and city halls writing the laws that impact us for generations.
Laws that can create or reduce affordable housing, expand access to a high-quality education for our kids, determine how much we pay out of pocket for health costs, and how we vote.

Remember to vote:
  • Vote early
  • Take a friend
  • Vote the entire ballot
  • Report attempts at voter suppression by calling 866-OUR-VOTE
  • Stay engaged by following us on social media at @naturbanleague and BET on their campaign site, https://www.bet.com/reclaim-your-vote
