Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Urban Plunge? For over 20 years Christ For the City International has been sending people into the world to transform lives and cities for the Glory of God. The Urban Plunge sends over 1,500 youth every year into 9 different cities within the United States.
Urban Plunge arranges all the details, partnering each group with 6-10 different ministries, allowing students to discover how God is calling them. In addition to planning the schedule, we also take care of the food, accommodation, and photos for your trip at a very affordable price. Each Urban Plunge team is accompanied by a trained facilitator, encouraging and debriefing your youth in how to live lives of purpose, challenge and incredible fulfillment for the Lord.

How will we get to Omaha? We are renting 12 passenger vehicles.

What should we bring? In Omaha we will be staying in beds in a dorm setting. You should bring a sleeping bag or blankets, Pillow, Towel, Toiletries, Weather-appropriate clothes, a water bottle, Bible and a pen.

Is there a dress code? It is okay to dress casually on the Urban Plunge. Wearing jeans, shorts, and shirts with sleeves are all fine. It is important, however, that no one wears clothes that expose their stomachs or are revealing in any way. Due to the nature of our ministry partners, modesty is very important. This means short-shorts, short skirts, and strapless or halter tops should not be brought along.
Additionally, no open-toed shoes are allowed for safety reasons. We will be outside during parts of the Plunge, so dress according to the weather. John will let you know if there are any more specific requirements when we get closers such as nice clothes (for church) or clothes that can get dirty (for gardening, painting, etc.).

Is the Urban Plunge safe? We will do everything in our power to ensure that every participant remains safe. In each of the cities that we work, we partner with organizations and ministry leaders who have been working with the poor and marginalized for many years. Our ministry partners are in the neighborhoods every day, and they have amazing relationships and street credibility with the people that your group will be serving. Urban Plunge participants are, therefore, in very capable hands with people who know a great deal about their surrounding demographics. Furthermore, every single Urban Plunge group is accompanied by a trained facilitator who also knows each ministry and the leadership well and is responsible for looking after all trip logistics, as well as debriefing and encouraging all participants.
Fundraising
We will have many opportunities for youth to participate in fundraising for our summer trips. We believe that with full participation each youth cover a large portion or even the entire cost of the trip.

HyVee Card Sales – Each youth will be assigned a Sunday to sell Hy-Vee Cards at the Youth Information Center. We will sell from 9:45 AM to 11:15 AM, and we require that each youth have a caring adult with them. The youth and adult will help a youth board member to sell cards as well as answer questions about upcoming youth ministry events. Each youth will receive $40 in their account for an hour and a half of service. If you are not able to serve during the Sunday assigned, you may switch with another youth or let John know so that other youth can have the opportunity to serve an additional shift.

Silent Auction – Dates for the auction are set for February 22 – March 8. The last day will end with a meal and a show on Sunday, March 8 from 5-8 PM. We ask that each household contributes items valued at least $200 in total value. These can be donations from a business or homemade items (woodworking, quilts, and small business items). We do ask that items be new! If you donate items to the silent auction, you will receive a percentage of the money raised. If you work shifts or serve in other roles supporting the auction the percentage will be increased. Last year we made almost $15,000 because of the youth's hard work.

Youth Group – Every time a youth attends Middle School Sunday Morning or Youth Group (MSYG or HSYG) after Nov 17, youth will earn $5 toward their account.

Envelope Fundraiser – At the end of March through much of April, our Envelopes will go up in the windows by the Celebrate Center. They will be numbered 1-150. The number on the outside of the envelope is the amount of money a person puts inside the envelope. If we were to collect all 150 envelopes, we would raise over $11,000! This money will be evenly distributed among trip participants.
