We understand some productions have sent notification that there will be changes to the pay structure for COVID testing as of May 1, 2021.
The DGC BC’s position is that the terms and conditions of our contract - including the COVID Letter of Understanding for those productions conducting COVID testing - continue to apply during collective bargaining. Our contract has a daily rate of pay, and a weekly rate of pay. There is no basis for paying a stipend in our Collective Agreement.
If you are asked to report for COVID testing on a day that you are not otherwise working, you must go as you normally would. If the employer informs you that you’ll be paid a stipend rather than your daily or pro-rated weekly rate, continue with the testing process and then please let us know as soon as possible. Likewise, if you discover on your paycheque that you were paid a stipend, let us know. The best way to inform us is by emailing members@dgcbc.com with your name, the production, and your position on the show so that we can take appropriate action.
We’ve dedicated members@dgcbc.com to this concern and will be monitoring that address continuously (including over the weekend), and that will be the most effective way for you to report if you are advised that you will be paid a stipend that is less than your guaranteed daily or weekly rate in the Collective Agreement.
Rest assured that we are aware of this situation and taking the necessary steps to represent you.
