A Moment for Mission

With a lively and steadfast faith, receive from God what you have to do for love of him.

Testament Prologue-St. Angela Merici

A Note from the President

Our hearts are heavy with the violence that occurred at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis last week. As we continue to pray for all those affected, questions naturally arise as to the precautions in place at Ursuline. Last week, you received a note from Dr. Michalski regarding the active shooter video that we share with students as part of regular safety protocols that take place throughout the year. I encourage you to take a few minutes to view it. While not easy to watch, the video offers practical guidance for all of us and presents an opportunity for meaningful conversation.

A significant project last year was the replacement of all exterior door locks with new technology designed to prevent the use of a hacking mechanism. As with all technology, we continue to monitor the capacity of our system, campus needs and advancements in the field.

In addition, each summer, we make the main buildings available to the Kirkwood Police Department for active shooter training of front-line officers. As a result of their time here, they have knowledge of our buildings that is incredibly beneficial to us. Officer Gary Baldridge, who leads Community Services for Kirkwood PD, asked if we are open to having officers pop in to visit or have lunch with the students now and then and I enthusiastically extended an invitation for them to do so. We value the partnership with the police and welcome any opportunity to remind students that their safety is our priority.

If you ever have questions about safety matters, do not hesitate to ask Mrs. Jones, Dr. Michalski or me.

All my best,

Peggy Slater
