Election Day Is Almost Here!

Tuesday, November 8, is Election Day. Voting is one of the most powerful ways to advocate for yourself. When you vote, you are saying who you want to represent you in government and who you want making decisions that could impact you.

Are you ready to vote next Tuesday? Below we answer some frequently asked questions to ensure you're prepared to participate in the election.

When and where do I vote? On Election Day, polling locations (also called "Vote Centers") will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. To find out where the polling locations are in your county, use the Texas Secretary of State's My Voter Portal or see the Election section of your county's website.

How do I get to the polls? If you typically use private or public transportation to get around, see if you can also use that on Election Day. If you can't, see our Find a Ride Guide for information about different transportation options you can consider to get to the polls.

What do I need to vote? Most people who vote in-person in Texas will need to show a common form of identification (ID), like a Texas Driver's License or Personal ID Card. However, if you don't have one of these IDs, some alternative forms of ID are accepted and some voters with disabilities may be eligible for a photo ID exemption. Learn more about Voter ID in Texas.

Will my polling place be accessible? It should be. All polling locations must meet strict accessibility standards, like having ramps and curb cuts, ample-sized entrances, etc. Also, every polling location is required to have at least one accessible voting device, and curbside voting must be offered for voters who are physically unable to enter the polling place. Learn more about these topics and others in our Voting Rights of People with Disabilities resource.

What if I have trouble voting? If you have trouble voting, or if you have a question that wasn't addressed above, call our Voting Rights Hotline at 1-888-796-VOTE (8683) or send an email to vote@drtx.org.

Other Election Deadlines

  • There's still time to vote early. Friday, November 4, is the last day for early voting. When early voting closes, there won't be any in-person voting until Election Day. Learn what you need to know about early voting.
  • Voting by mail? If you applied for and received a mail-in ballot, your county's Early Voting Clerk must receive your postmarked ballot by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9. Learn more about completing and submitting your mail-in ballot.
