Trunk or Treat

Help us host our annual Trunk or Treat so that families in our community can make spook-tacular Halloween memories! Trunk hosts will decorate their vehicles in fun, spooky, or creative ways and distribute individually packaged treats to

pre-registered participants.


Participating families will WALK through Trunk or Treat to receive candy or treats.


With your help, we can make this another Halloween to remember!


Trunk hosts MUST pre-register in order to participate in this event. Registration closes Wednesday, October 25th.

Trunk Host

This FREE community event is open to families with children in 8th grade

and younger, but

pre-registration is REQUIRED!


  • In lieu of an admission fee, we will collect donations for the Windham Food Pantry.
  • Participating families will WALK through Trunk or Treat.
  • Prepackaged candy and goodies will be distributed at each trunk.
  • Families will only be permitted to enter the Trunk or Treat at their designated time.
  • Event capacity is limited, so ALL trick-or-treaters are REQUIRED to pre-register.


Registration for trick-or-treaters who are Windham residents opens Monday, October 2nd at 7:00am.


If space is available, registration for non-Windham residents will open Monday, October 16th at 7:00am.

Family Registration

Halloween Costume Contest 

Our annual costume contest is back, and we can’t wait to see your amazing Halloween costumes! Kids ages 18 & under are invited to participate in the 2023 costume contest by submitting a photo of themselves for our judges.

How to Enter: Simply email a photo of your child in costume between October 16th and November 3rd to Parks&[email protected] with the subject line “Costume Contest Entry”. Along with the photo, please include the following information:

  • Child’s Name
  • Child’s Age
  • Parent’s Name
  • Address (must be a Windham resident)
  • Description of Costume

Judging Info: As always, our friends from the Windham Lions Club will act as judges. Winners will be selected in 6 different age groups. The following

criteria will be taken into consideration:

  • Creativity
  • Originality
  • Effort
  • Authenticity

Any photos received for the costume contest may be shared on Windham Parks and Recreation social media and used in promotional materials.

Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Discounted Tickets

Creative Movement

For Children Ages 2-5

Creative Movement is back at Windham Parks & Recreation! Join us on Friday mornings at the Windham Public Library for a creative twist on dancing! Instructors from the Drouin Dance Center will use props and music to inspire creative movement and dance. This is a fun and exciting way to introduce your little one to the world of dance!


Creative Movement for ages 2 to 3 is a 30 minute class that keeps your little dancer moving. We will play dance games, dance with props, and learn concepts like stop/go, fast/slow and high/low. This class is a great first experience for your child to be in a group setting independently.


Creative Movement for ages 3 to 5 is a 40 minute dance/movement class. We will be exploring movement, basic ballet terms, and dancing with props. Skills such as taking turns, sharing, forming a line, and respect will be encouraged.


Dates: Fridays, September 27 - November 1 (Exclusion Date: 10/7/22)

Times: 11:45am-12:15pm for ages 2-3; 12:20-1:00pm for ages 3-5

Tennis in the Parks

For Grades 1-8

The tennis program where kids play while they learn! Led by an approved USTA Net Generation tennis coach, the program will focus on developing the skills to serve, rally and play - so it’s perfect for beginners and first-time players. Once the skills are there, participants will play fun matches with other players in the program. This program uses modified tennis balls, age-appropriate rackets, court sizes, and the latest fun and engaging activities that help players successfully learn and play the game quicker!


All players in their first session receive and keep a new age-appropriate racket and a ball!


Dates: Sundays, September 17 - October 15 (Rain date: 10/23)

Times: Grades 1-2 (Red Ball): 9:00 - 10:15am

      Grades 3-5 (Orange Ball): 10:15 - 11:30 am

Grades 6-8 (Green Ball): 11:30am-12:45pm

Location: Windham High School Tennis Courts (behind the school) - 406 Gray Road, Windham, ME

Creative Kiddie Craft Time

For Children Ages 2-5

Children ages 2-5 and their adult caregivers are invited to craft and create together! Moms and dads, grandparents, babysitters, aunts and uncles… All are welcome to join us at Town Hall for simple craft projects with all supplies provided.


This popular program can fill quickly, so be sure to pre-register!

Kiddie Gym

For Ages 5 & Under

Indoor fun with balls, slides, parachutes and plenty of playmates! All toddlers must be accompanied by a "participating" adult.


This is a drop-in program; no pre-registration is required.

Karate

For Grades K-5

As of August 2023, the Primary School Gym is unavailable for use due to damage. Unfortunately, there will be no after school Karate until November or until the gym is completed. Lack of transportation and facility availability limits our department to provide a Karate program at this time.


Participants/families are welcome to go to the Bushido Karate Dojo in Casco to work with Sensei Lisa until the program begins. Click here to visit the Bushido website for more information!

High Touch High Tech: Plant Lab Fun

For Grades K-3


Are plants alive? What do they need to survive & thrive? Do we (mammals) have something in common with plants? Answer those questions as we explore everything plants. Use plants for art, learn about invasive species, explore all the ways plants defend themselves, learn about extinct plants, make a plant fossil and much more fun hands-on plants science!

Grades: K-3

Dates: Wednesday, September 13 - October 18

Mad Science: Energize It!

For Grades 4 & 5

Hop on board the Mad Science express for a high-speed, hands-on science experience guaranteed to energize your mind! Explore the many facets of energy, forces, motion, potions, and yes…slime! Reach for your potential and ramp up your thinking about energy with gadgets, cars, and catapults. Discover how to make objects disappear and reappear as we unravel the mysteries of magic using science. Slide down the colorful pH scale and make liquids bubble, fizz, and pop. Learn the physics of optical illusions and build your very own periscope. Ooze into a gooey hour of sliming around as you discover the slimy properties of your favorite polymer. Act out hot molecule movements and discover some unusual applications of glow-in-the dark technology. Explore forces by making centrifuges, spinning gyroscopes, and building your own center of gravity game to take home. This program is so energizing, even gravity can’t keep you down! Put your seat belt on…these energetic classes are going to make you have a blast!

WMS Early Release Day: Salt Pump Climbing Company

For Grades 6-8

Looking for something to do on the Windham Middle School early release days? Windham Parks & Recreation offers a full day program that includes outings to local destinations and supervised games, activities and free time.


October 6th at Salt Pump Climbing Company: When school is dismissed at 10:00am, participants will meet us in the WMS cafeteria for morning activities. We will have lunch and then depart to Salt Pump Climbing Company for some rock climbing!

Grades: 6-8

Date: Thursday, October 5th

Time: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Location: Windham Middle School Cafeteria

Fee: $40

Lunch: Please bring a lunch - some locations may have food to purchase

No School Day

For Grades K-5

Kids in grades K-5, join Windham Parks & Recreation during no school days for a fun day of games, crafts and trips to local destinations! We’ll start off the day with gym games, crafts and outdoor play at the Town Hall gym and park. We will have an early lunch and head out for the field trip in the afternoon! Pre-registration is required, as space is limited so register today!

Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Trip: TBD if transportation is available

Tennis in the Parks

For Ages 18+

Led by a USTA approved coach, participants will have fun and get great exercise while developing the skills to serve, rally, and play tennis. The program is perfect for first-time and beginner players, as well as returning novice players.


All players in their first session receive and keep a new tennis racket!

Date: Saturdays, September 9 - October 14 (Rain date: 10/21)

Time: 9:00 - 10:30am

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday Adult Pick-Up Basketball

For Ages 40+

Adults ages 40+, please join us on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights at Community Park (September-October) and Windham Primary School Gym (November-December). Games will be played in a pick-up format.


Pre-registration is required for this program.

Apple Picking at Thompson's Apple Orchard

For Ages 18+

Thompson’s Orchard is a family owned and operated Orchard and Bakery in New Gloucester, ME, that has been in operation since 1906.

They have a variety of desserts they make at the bakery, from pastries, donuts, pies and delicious apple cider and so much more. Their team is on hand making fresh bread to jellies and jams to country goods and tree wreathes - they have something for everyone.

Fall Foliage Guided Kayak Tour

For Ages 18+

Join us on this leaf-peeping kayak outing! This fun and relaxing way to get out and enjoy the hues of autumn.

This outing will begin at the historical Gambo Dam and meander upstream of the Presumpscot River. You will be able to appreciate the quiet sounds of nature as the birds overhead continue south for the winter, fish surface for a snack and the vivid colors pop off the glassy stream.

Weekly Shopping

Join Windham Parks & Recreation every Thursday morning to go shopping in North Windham. This program is FREE for seniors who can't drive or get to a store on their own. Participants are required to call our office and reserve your spot between Monday - Wednesday of that week. The route and the times may vary slightly each week based upon the number of participants that reserve a spot. Picking up from different locations may require a slight wait. Call us at 892-1905 to reserve your spot.
