Dr. Kari Finley Presenting at CADCA
Keep an eye out for the Center for Health and Safety Culture at the CADCA Mid-Year Training Institute in Dallas, TX! Dr. Kari Finley will present, “Exploring Washington State’s Traffic Safety Culture About Driving Under the Influence of Cannabis and Alcohol,” on July 15, 2019 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm.
Health is not merely a product of individual biology, psychology and behavioral factors; it is the sum of collective social conditions created when people interact with the environment. Thus, preventing unintentional injury requires attention to the entire social system” (Allegrante, Hanson, Sleet, & Marks 2010).
The Positive Culture Framework builds on lessons learned from our research on Positive Community Norms and includes more than just normative beliefs to take a comprehensive, cultural perspective. The Framework moves beyond only using social norms marketing campaigns to influence behavior. It fosters a cultural approach by recognizing that many different layers in a community (e.g., individuals, families, schools, workplaces, etc.) or organization (e.g., frontline staff, supervisors, managers, executive leadership, etc.) impact its culture. It is not enough just to focus on one layer; instead, we need to engage all layers of the social ecology of a community to address health and safety. When all layers share values, beliefs, and attitudes, a healthier and safer culture emerges and is sustained over time.

Join us in Nashville, Tennessee on September 24-26, 2019 for our Positive Culture Framework Training! We are excited to announce that this year, we are presenting an updated version of our 2.5-day Training, which provides a foundation for efforts to improve health and safety that address a wide variety of complex social issues.
