National Agriculture in the Classroom is hosting a Virtual Summit, free-of-charge, on Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25, in lieu of the national conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, that was canceled because of COVID-19 social distancing mandates issued by the State of Utah.

Workshop sessions will be presented by Agriculture in the Classroom state contacts, Pre-K—12  teachers, and National Center for Agricultural Literacy lesson developers. Elementary level sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, and secondary level sessions will be held Thursday, June 25. All educators interested in Pre-K—12 agricultural literacy are welcome to participate in any or all of the sessions. Zoom will be used as the platform to conduct the workshops.

Congratulations to the 2020
Utah Excellence in Teaching About Agriculture Award Recipient!
Ryan Ferre, a fifth-grade teacher at Saratoga Shores Elementary, has been selected as a state and national recipient of the Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award . Ryan uses a pumpkin growing contest, development of different cultivars of flowers, embryology and hydroponics to teach his students important STEM concepts (science, technology, engineering and math).

The Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award is a competitive award that annually recognizes an outstanding teacher who increases student awareness about agriculture and instills in students an appreciation for our food and fiber system.

Congratulations to the
2020 Agriculture Advocate of the Year!
The National Agriculture in the Classroom Organization (NAITCO) and National Grange have selected Utah farmer and Utah Farm Bureau Women's Committee District Chair Sara Harward as the winner of its Agriculture Advocate Award for 2020.

Harward won the award for her personal and professional educational literacy outreach efforts involving teachers and students. As a Utah Farm Bureau Women's Committee District Chair, she helps organize classroom agricultural literacy efforts by pairing an American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture's "Book of the Year" with a related Utah Agriculture in the Classroom lesson, and coalescing volunteers to present both to teachers and students across the state. As a sweet corn and pumpkin farmer, she and her husband host thousands of teachers and students at her farm each year for fall farm field days and summer farm camps for youth.

Congratulations to Utah's 2020
CHS Foundation Scholarship Recipient!
Lisa Clement, from Willowcreek Middle School, has been selected as a 2020 CHS Foundation Scholarship recipient.

Fifty teachers from around the United States were selected to receive scholarships from the CHS Foundation to attend the 2020 National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference. Because the conference was canceled due to COVID-19, Lisa and other recipients will receive registration scholarships to the 2021 National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference scheduled for June 28-July 1, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Teachers were selected for their desire to learn more innovative ways to use agricultural concepts to teach reading, writing, math, science and social studies and more. Onsite and traveling workshops at the conference will provide these teachers with demonstrations of how effective the use of agricultural concepts in classroom instruction can be. In addition, teachers will network with other educators who have a passion for Pre-K—12 agricultural literacy.
