Your Utah, Your Future at work in this year's legislative session
A little over three years ago, Envision Utah gathered input from over 53,000 Utahns to help create the Your Utah, Your Future vision—a statewide vision for 2050 created by Utahns, for Utahns.

Since then, we've been hard at work making that vision a reality. From land usage and transportation to air quality and education, the Your Utah, Your Future vision continues to have a remarkable impact on the way Utah grows. There's more work to be done, but this year's legislative session furthered the implementation of your vision in many ways. Here are some examples:

Air Quality: Utahns placed air quality at the top of their priority list in the Your Utah, Your Future vision, and the topic continues to be a critical issue for our quality of life. During this year's legislative session, over $29 million was appropriated to implement key strategies for improving our air, including swapping out wood burning stoves, increasing accessibility of electric car charging stations, and promoting the use of public transit during bad air days. These strategies were outlined in the Your Utah, Your Future vision and will have a big impact on our air quality—we're excited to see them be implemented!

Energy: In the Your Utah, Your Future vision, Utahns said they wanted clean, affordable, and reliable energy. This year several bills were passed that will help us move closer to making that vision a reality. The Weatherization Assistance Program will help low-income households weatherize their homes to improve energy efficiency. In addition, other bills ( HB411 and HCR 2 ) were passed that will encourage and incentivize the development of renewable energy sources.

Housing and Cost of Living: Utahns believe that good homes, neighborhoods, and communities are essential to a high quality of life. They want a wide range of housing options that match what Utahns want and can afford. SB34 provides cities with a list of strategies (development near rail stations, rezoning for a variety of housing types, waiving development fees, etc.) and incentives to encourage housing that's affordable.

We're excited to see the work being done with the Your Utah, Your Future vision! By working together and implementing the strategies found in the vision, we can ensure that Utah is a great place to live, both now and in the future.
Envision Utah Youth Council Kickoff
Over the past few months, we've been working with high schools and youth organizations to relaunch the Envision Utah Youth Council. The youth council played a big role in our outreach for the Your Utah, Your Future vision a couple years ago, and we're excited to reengage with a young generation of Utahns and further implement the Your Utah, Your Future vision for 2050.

We'd like to extend a big thanks to everyone who came out to our kickoff at Lucid Software this month. At the event, we held an activity to help the high school students explore growth-related challenges on both a community and statewide level. Currently, they’re working on research and survey work for our teacher shortage and clean air toolkit projects. We're excited to see what strategies and data they come up with!

If you or someone you know has a high school student who might like to get involved with the Envision Utah Youth Council, please reach out to Melissa Langford for more details.
