Associate Chief Justice John A. Pearce Announces Departure From Utah Supreme Court


In his May 30, 2025, letter to Gov. Spencer J. Cox announcing his departure, Justice Pearce noted that in his 16 years of public service, he has “had the privilege to work alongside some of the most dedicated and talented people in the state...”

Applications are now being accepted for the position of justice of the Utah Supreme Court.This position results from the retirement of Justice John A. Pearce, December 1, 2025. The complete notice of vacancy and the online application can be accessed by clicking on the button below.
All applications must be submitted through the online system. The application deadline is Friday, July 11, 2025.

Licensing Renewal + Joining A Section

The online license renewal system is now open. All licenses expire June 30, 2025, and must be renewed online at https://services.utahbar.org.


Your username is your 5-digit bar number (add leading zeros if needed) plus your last name, unless you've customized it. For login help, email onlinesupport@utahbar.org.


You must complete the renewal form yourself, certify your identity, and pay online by credit card or e-check/ACH.


Important deadlines:

  • July 1, 2025 – Renewal due
  • August 1, 2025 – $100 late fee added
  • September 1, 2025 – License suspended + $200 reinstatement fee


Note: Failure to renew does not place your license on inactive status. You must complete the renewal and pay the fee to remain active.


Don’t forget to join a Section or Affinity Bar during renewal to stay connected with your legal community.

YLD Needs Volunteers


Join the Young Lawyers Division for its Wills for Heroes event in Utah County on Saturday, June 14th, at the Lehi Public Safety Building.

🕘 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

📍 128 North 100 East, Lehi, UT 84043

You'll help first responders and their families by preparing basic estate planning documents—including healthcare directives, and living wills. No experience? No problem! You'll receive training and support on-site.

This is a meaningful way to give back to your community and an important project of the YLD in Utah!

Spencer Twede has built a career in technology, including roles at Apple and the Canyons School District, where he led a team managing over 50,000 devices for K–12 education. In 2024, he earned a Master’s in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University to further expand his leadership and technical skills. Welcome to the the Bar, Spencer!
