December 2024

"There is such urgency in the multitude of crises we face, it can make it hard to remember that in fact it is urgency thinking (urgent constant unsustainable growth) that got us to this point, and that our potential success lies in doing deep, slow, intentional work." -adrienne maree brown

How to Handle Hard Conversations This Holiday Season

Disagreement can be one of the hardest things to prepare for when visiting with loved ones — especially during intense and polarizing political climates. But there are ways to make the experience a little smoother, said family therapists, who shared their ideas with KQED for what to do when conversations around the dinner table go awry. Read more on the KQED website.

Best Practices for Engaging the Voices of People with Lived Experience

The Office of Trauma and Resilience Policy (OTRP) created a video showcasing individuals who coordinate or participate in state-level lived experience advisory councils. It provides an overview of best practices, covering topics such as recruitment, retention, compensation, and co-leadership approaches.

Building Power Through Storytelling to Grow the Trauma-Informed Movement

November's CTIPP CAN walked through a storytelling framework as we prepare our 2025 advocacy efforts, including why effectively sharing stories is one of the most powerful advocacy tools, particularly when multiple people and organizations work together. This is the third CTIPP CAN of a four-month series focused on education, networking, and resource-sharing for the trauma-informed movement. Find all the resources mentioned in the call and access the transcript on CTIPP's website.

New LGBTQ Resources for Service Providers

In 2012, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center developed an information packet of materials for service providers working with the LGBTQ+ community. These resources were well-received and widely used by the field for many years. In 2023, NSVRC staff began talking with key partners about the current needs of LGBTQ+ community members and felt it was time to update our resources. These resources aim to give updated guidance and considerations for those serving this population. Learn more and access the guides on the NSVRC website.
