VALLEJO POLICE CHIEF SHAWNY WILLIAMS ISSUES OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD
VALLEJO, CA – As the Chief of Police for the City of Vallejo, I strongly denounce the events that led to the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. As Peace Officers, our fundamental duty is to serve humanity, to safeguard lives, and to protect our community.

This tragic incident, committed under the color of authority, is a violation of what we stand for. We acknowledge that communities nationally and locally are angry, and we are empathic to how communities may feel about these devastating events.

I would like to reassure our Vallejo residents that our leadership values our community, the sanctity of human life and the dignity of each person. The conduct carried out in the George Floyd case is deplorable and no such actions will ever be tolerated or practiced in the City of Vallejo.

As we continue to evolve and embrace our new beginnings as a Department, I would like to assure our community that we will remain steadfast in serving, safeguarding, and protecting each life in our city.
