Vallejo, CA - On July 5, 2025, at approximately 1:36 A.M., the Vallejo Fire Department responded to an emergency medical call for service concerning an unconscious female on the 400 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane. The Vallejo Fire Department provided medical aid to the female and immediately transported her to a local hospital for medical attention.
Upon arrival, medical personnel assessed the victim and identified at least one gunshot wound. The Vallejo Police Department's Patrol and Detective Divisions were promptly notified and responded to the hospital and the scene. Despite the ongoing life-saving efforts by medical staff, the victim ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Vallejo Police Department's Detective Division initiated a thorough investigation, which led to the identification of Jose Guadalupe Castillo, a 42-year-old resident of Vallejo, as the primary suspect in this homicide. A records check revealed that Castillo was currently out on bail for a previous arrest made by the Vallejo Police Department on May 3, 2025, for willfully discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On July 16, 2025, officers assigned to the Vallejo Police Department Patrol Division observed Jose Castillo on the unit block of Admiral Callaghan Lane. When the officers attempted to contact Castillo, he tried to evade them and quickly walked into a convenience store. The officers entered the store and arrested Castillo without incident. During the arrest, officers located a firearm equipped with an extended magazine in the aisle where Castillo had been standing prior to him being apprehended.
Following his arrest, Jose Castillo was booked into the Solano County Jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On July 18, the Solano County District Attorney's Office reviewed the evidence submitted by the Detective Division and subsequently charged Castillo with several felonies, including second degree murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and committing a felony while out on bail.
