Home Depot Hires
14 MCCDC Clients
When MCCDC heard that Home Depot in San Rafael was hiring it organized recruitment meetings to employ clients. Home Depot has now hired 14 people in positions that include sales, freight and customer service. MCCDC's relationship with the clients will continue because they are enrolled in SparkPoint Marin, which exists to help them build financially secure futures based on a step-by-step plan to set and achieve personal goals.

Summer Youth Development Program Helps Young People Reach Goals
|
 | From left, SYDP staff Angie Hines, Andrew Abou Jaoude, Zoe Minor and Darby Henry celebrate the successful completion of this year's program. |
|
As it has done every summer for the past five years, Marin City Community Development Corporation (MCCDC) once again coordinated the Summer Youth Development Program (SYDP) to help young people who come from low-income neighborhoods in Marin County develop skills and obtain work experiences that will empower them to reach personal goals while simultaneously boosting the local economy. This year the program assisted 65 youths, aged 14-21, and offered them educational support and work experiences in fields that serve their professional higher purposes. Thanks to the support of the Tamalpais Adult School and of numerous businesses across Marin County, MCCDC was able to provide all of the participants a base to grow from as they work to improve their quality of life, their family life and their community.

Education Proves Key To Summer
Youth Development Program's Success
|
 | SYDP youth mapping their personal and professional goals and visions |
|
Here at Marin City Community Development Corporation (MCCDC) we believe that our communities flourish when young people are given the tools that they need to learn, grow and succeed in life. To this end, education is one of the most impactful gifts that we can offer youths in our society. When we invest in education, we commit ourselves to the development of our citizens and the future welfare of our communities. This is why the Summer Youth Development Program (SYDP) has created a comprehensive educational component that lets young people get ready for the upcoming school year, learn the skills that employers are looking for in the workplace and prepare them to have rewarding careers.

The 2013 Summer Youth Development Program (SYDP) successfully placed 65 young people at 20 different companies in Marin County in jobs related to green construction, mechanics, media engineering and production, clerical work and more. By supporting the youth, Marin City Community Development Corporation (MCCDC) wants to fuel the local economy in a way that sustains the triple-bottom-line of social, environmental, and commercial needs. The link between the youth and the triple-bottom-line is a straightforward one: young people receive the support they need to succeed in life, Marin County businesses receive motivated and professional employees that can help them be successful and together we create jobs for our communities.
