I've looked into the future ....  All signs point to VASS RUNNING THIS YEAR
Message from the Executive Director:

Hello amazing VASS family!

I am so thrilled to announce that VASS will be running this coming season. I have been meeting with our local mountains, provincial and national adaptive snowsports organizations and of course considering all of our provincial health authority recommendations, in order to determine our best practices moving forward.   There should be a full plan available for review on our website by October 1, 2020.  Of course, it will be a living document that may need tweaking as we evolve through this unique time.

Our primary goal this season is simply: a commitment to make it SAFE for our volunteers and participants so that we can "make the mountains accessible to all."

I am excited to figure it all out and empower all of us to play our roles at the highest levels. I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Best,

James Peters

Important Dates
OCT 1st, 2020 - Volunteer signup opens

Please set a reminder on your phone to get this done as soon as it is available, so we can set appropriate numbers for our program sizes.

NOV 1st, 2020 - Student registration opens

Student registration is going to be a little different this year. In order to register for lessons, students will need to signup with a person in their bubble that can ski at a level equal to, or better than, the student. All of the details will be coming out in the next newsletter.  Our commitment is to make it safe for volunteers and participants to access the mountains and VASS programming this year. Stay tuned...

We need a little help...

We are expanding our teams and leadership, and looking for some key people to make VASS an even more magical experience for everyone.

  1. We are hiring an administrative assistant to help in the daily running of the operations: facilitating communication, aiding in registration and contributing to events. All details are on 'indeed'. Click the green button below to apply. After applying, please also send me an email to let me know to look out for your name... [email protected]
  2. We are doing a survey of past volunteers so we can learn how to better serve you this year. If you have volunteered with us in the past 3 years, please take 2 minutes to answer the 7 question survey. Click here.
  3. We are building some powerful committees in the following areas:
-Winter Online Silent Auction Committee - This is a new adventure for us, launching an online silent auction for the end of November with a goal of raising $15000.  We will need help in; collection of auction items; determine online platform; and distribution to winning bidders. Committee starts mid-September with a 2-hour meeting, to map it all out, and then action as required.

-VASS Snowfest Committee (Formerly VASS CUP) - We have had an amazing group of people spearheading this fundraiser for several years... and this year I am hopeful to have most of them back. New members are always welcome and this year will be a year of re-invention as we will still likely be under COVID restrictions in March when the event is held.  First meeting will be mid-September, for planning, followed by weekly check-in meetings and actionable items for all.

-Wrench Committee - Our equipment curator, Rick Turnbull, will be forming a team of mechanically inclined peeps who are keen to learn about properly maintaining sitskis, waxing and edging skis, shock adjustments, full setup and adjustment of all sitskis, maintaining the brand new Tetraski and more. Group meeting in the beginning of October to kick things off and start sharing knowledge.

-Social Committee - This is all new. I am looking for a small group of people to assist in social events planning, including mid-season & year end events and a summer social.

-Tetraski Committee/ instructors – This group is a little about marketing and promotion of our awesome new TETRASKI as well as for instructors that would like to learn how to assist in Tetraski lessons and possibly become pilots so they can run lessons.   Members should have some daytime weekday flexibility as this is when most of these lessons will be delivered. First meeting in October to set out a plan with on snow sessions as soon as possible.   Some dryland training opportunities may become available before the snow.

If you are interested in any of these committees, please shoot me an email or give me call. James [email protected] or 604 646 8277
