Volunteer Update

Thank you to all those volunteers that have already signed up for the season. Just to let all new volunteers know, if you have not heard from us yet that is a good thing… It means everything is going well with your profile and providing that you have selected a program already, you will be contacted by a program coordinator within the next month.

If you have not selected a program yet, we are still in need of instructors for Saturday and Sunday morning ski programs and snowboard instructors on Monday evenings.

For those who have signed up for Wednesday nights at Grouse Mountain, we currently have too many volunteers!! If you are able to move to one of the above mentioned programs, that would be awesome. It can all be managed through your snowline profile. If you have questions or need a hand email us at info@vass.ca

OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We are looking for some volunteers that would like to learn how to tech skis and snowboards in an assistant role with the Grouse Mountain rental shop. Full training will be provided, including certification in specific bindings. Specifically, we are looking for tech help for the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon programs as well as Saturday and Sunday mornings.

If this interests you, please text James at 604-646-8277 and let him know that you would like to be involved in further communication regarding this opportunity.

VASS is currently looking for mechanically inclined individuals that would like to be part of a team that helps to maintain our sit ski fleet.

With lots of equipment at both Grouse and Seymour, we are in need of 8 to 10 people that would like to receive some training and then be part of a regular rotation to make sure that all of our gear maintains the highest safety standards for the season.

If this interests you, please text James at 604-646-8277 and let him know that you would like to be involved in further communication regarding this opportunity.

FREE ONLINE TRAINING

As we get closer and closer to the beginning of the season, I am often asked what else Volunteers can do to get ready. There is interesting online training available that will expand your ability to help others.

First, is a training that was developed by CADS called 'Countdown'. It is absolutely free for you to take and is accessible through your Snowline profile. Once you are logged onto your profile, click the black VASS logo in the top left corner and a menu will appear. Go down to 'e-learning' and from there you will find the 'Countdown' course. It takes about 90 minutes. Filled with lots of good info about working with neurodiverse students.

Second, as a reminder, everyone MUST complete the 'SAFE SPORT' training. It also takes about 90 minutes and directions on how to access that can be found by clicking here.
