VAST Member Exhibition Entries Due Tomorrow

VAST members,

We are looking forward to receiving your entries to the ME show (Member's Exhibition) on Thursday. Don't forget that we are publishing images of ALL the paintings in the show, not just the winners as has been done in the past. In order to do that we will need you to send us or give us jpgs of the accepted paintings. You could either bring a CD Rom with you to the intake of the one or two artworks you enter, we can return them at the meeting in the fall, or you can email the image to vastmembersexhibition@gmail.com by Monday the 23rd. There is a format for naming the jpg file that VAST has been using successfully with other shows.

The naming convention is the same as for all other VAST exhibitions and goes like this:

Artist's Last Name_First Initial_Title_Of_Work.jpg

Example:  Williams_J_Winter_Light_in_Evening.jpg

If you have any questions please email me and I will get back to you immediately. If you absolutely can't photograph the work don't let it keep you from entering the show, we will make sure that it is represented.

Sincerely,

Laurie Weller

Congratulations to the Three Merging Visions "Pairings" Voted as "Favorite" by Exhibit Viewers

mv

The Winners of

Merging Visions

First Annual People's Choice Award

are the following:

Lin Hampton,
Blue Britches -
paired with poet, Sandy Sanborn,
"Grandparents Are"

Tesa Morin, Prayer Flags: Portrait of Jackie Gibbons -

paired with poet, Lydia Alexander, "Peace Passing Understanding"

Tesa Morin, sserd-dress -

paired with poet, Christina Smith, "Come to Life"

Because Merging Visions is all about collaboration, synchronicity and connection, the Denton Poet's Assembly, together with Denton's Visual Arts Society of Texas, created The People's Choice Award to showcase the way art echoes the connection between all living things.  The public was asked to vote on the picture and poem, which best complemented each other.  224 votes were cast during the exhibit and the votes were very evenly distributed among the pairings.   The exhibit clearly showed how few degrees of separation actually stand between writers, painters, plumbers, farmers, photographers, flowers, animals, and even the dead. In

Merging Visions, the 'pairings' transcend gender, age, race, religion and politics to create a bond between artist, poet, and viewer.

---Christine Irving, Chairperson

Many of the combined works will move to the Denton branch libraries, June 13 - August 15. The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Greater Denton Arts Council and the Denton Public Library.

July 17

August 7

August 21

VADO is a day where members may come paint at the CVA from 9:15am - 3pm, approximately two mornings a month.  There is no instructor, it is not a workshop...just an art gathering.

You may paint, sketch, quilt or what ever creative endeavor you desire in the fellowship with your artist friends.  Lunch and fellowship are the best parts!

The cost is $10 a year, or $1 a session if you just want to drop in every now and then.  Pay with your dues, or you can send $10 to:
Mary Emerson
1001 Emerald Sound Blvd.
Oak Point, TX  75068
