The February guest presentation is by renowned watercolor and oil painter, Cecy Turner.  Cecy Turner is an award-winning artist who has been painting and teaching for the past thirty-five years.  She takes ordinary subjects and makes them seem magically "bathed in light."

Merging Visions
Seeking Sponsorships
We have the joy of announcing that the Denton Benefit League is again granting us $1000 to be used for the production of "Collections VI," the  Merging Visions catalog. Their contribution will greatly assist us in covering part of the $2500 expense needed for the catalog's production. We feel this gesture demonstrates their recognition of the importance of this exhibition to the community.

At this time, we are seeking additional sponsorships to underwrite the balance of the production expense. As a member or supporter of the Denton Poets' Assembly and the Visual Arts Society of Texas, we would appreciate your monetary contribution to help us produce this publication.

All participants, all local libraries, and the area universities receive a catalog free in gratitude for their participation. Your sponsorship is essential to our ability to continue to provide these free catalogs. The libraries archive each issue making the catalog available long after the exhibit has closed.

In addition to Sponsorships, pre-orders for additional copies of the catalog are being taken now at $25.00 each. Due to the expense involved in production, pre-orders help us know exactly how many catalogs we need to order to meet demand. Your pre-order also helps us budget more precisely, saving VAST and DPA funds.

The forms for Sponsorships and pre -orders can be found here.
Forms can also be found on the VAST website: www.vastarts.org .

We appreciate your consideration of providing a Sponsorship, and your generosity in that gift. Your early response to our request for pre-orders  will be appreciated.

"Noble Visions" exhibition at
Barnes & Noble Booksellers Cafe  Golden Triangle Mall
Artwork by Bonnie Siebert - January 6.
Artist Statement:
I can't remember a time that I wasn't painting and it's difficult to imagine a time when I will not be able to paint.  A life without art seems diminished in contrast to the vitality of life with art. Nevertheless for me, the grace and beauty and thrill when one confronts a work of art, whether colors or words or music , surpasses almost any other search for meaning.  Solace, reprieve, joy and beauty are the constant companions of my work and it is no small thing to hear someone say "this painting makes me happy."

Coordinator for exhibit:  Contact Carol Stoecker at storytimeartist@yahoo.com or

"Outside the Box"  exhibition at Point Bank Blackbox Theater
Holiday Exhibit through Jan. 8
Isabel Cano's paintings will be exhibited from January 8 - April 8.
The exhibition is free.

Isabel Cano, of Denton, has been painting in acrylic for five years and also has experimented with pastel and photography. The six paintings on exhibit are from her series "Flowers."

Cano has been a member of VAST for nine years and served three years on the Board of Directors including a year of service as Vice-president in charge of programs. She has exhibited in a number of the art society's juried and non-juried exhibitions. She credits the organization with inspiring her to work and develop her skills as a painter.

Artist Statement:
My series "Flowers" is a study in shape, color, light and shadow. I create these paintings to give the flowers a much longer life, in hopes that more people will get to see the one that captivated me. The purpose of the bigger scale is to create an impact that will force as many viewers as possible, to see the beauty that would otherwise go unnoticed.

I create art to share with the viewer a slice of what and how, I perceive my surroundings .

Coordinator for exhibit:

"Through the Ages"  exhibition at the Denton Senior Center
Exhibition with Gail Cope and Perri Hamilton through March.
Gail Cope, artist statement:
My work's main purpose is to remind people that we are all human with every kind of need and emotion. An awareness of other cultures provides an insight into our own, and shows that the culture surrounding us is not the only valid one.  The predominant element of my work is the dot or circle, referring to the eternal, and used as decoration in many religions and cultures around the world.

Petri Hamilton, artist statement:
I generally paint in watercolor.  The inspiration for my work comes from my garden, the landscape around my yard and my neighborhood. I paint close-up view of plants so that people can appreciate their beauty.

VAST Artist Day Out is a day where members may come paint at the CVA from 9:00am - 3pm, approximately two mornings a month.  There is no instructor, it is not a workshop...just an art gathering.

You may paint, sketch, quilt or what ever creative endeavor you desire in the fellowship with your artist friends.  Lunch and fellowship are the best parts!

The cost is $10 a year, or $1 a session if you just want to drop in every now and then.  Pay with your dues, or you can send $10 to:
