May 7 Meeting: The monthly Mini Show winners are to bring their winning pieces to be judged for VAST's 2015 Artist of the Year.
Dotty Zamora To Present "The Art Journey"
|
Texas-based artist Dotty Zamora works in mixed media, specifically in encaustic, and describes herself as a naturalist. Her work is an expression of personal focus on nature. She hopes to share a walk with VAST into nature.
"While hiking I sketch the presence of small or microcosmic places in that glimpse of time, and make a written notation or poem of that presence in an artist sketch diary. The notation is usually in reference to natural forms, color, movement of air and the texture within that space in time. ... I also collect bits and pieces of found debris from nature, like tortoise shells, wasp nests, dead insects, sand, sticks and st
ones to incorporate into the painting. ... The materials with which I work have a direct relationship to the earth."
"My art offers the viewer a chance to journey with me along my path filled with the pleasures of multiple colored wax surfaces, to show the textures and forms life can take."
More about Dotty Zamora and her art can be seen at Dotty Zamora on Facebook.
The meeting is Thursday, May 7 - 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Patterson-Appleton Center for the Visual Arts (P-A CVA) in Denton.

Color and Texture, digital photo art
Randy Honeycutt
|
After 50 years of experimentation in the photography field, musician and artist Randy Honeycutt, has found that technology now allows him to take his art beyond the traditional photograph. It is with his current work aided by an IPad, that he can allow the viewer to finally "see" what his vision is. Through the use of an IPad and his personal photographs, Honeycutt can not only capture color and light, but develop a narrative in the piece. The iPad is a tool he has with him at all times; it allows for freedom to experiment, try different textures, processes and colors.
Randy Honeycutt's work starts with the photograph and through digital manipulation, he portrays his message. Randy believes the piece, Color and Texture, to be a composite statement that visually says that, without the musician, the black and white notes on a sheet of music have absolutely no color and no texture. Through the enhanced lively use of color and added detail, Honeycutt brings the scene to life.
The focus of Randy Honeycutt's work has been on local musicians with whom Honeycutt has performed. In recognition of these musicians' creativity and generosity, Honeycutt's "Local Musicians Series I", came into being. He finds that through the musician, and now his digitally enhanced work, the performance can truly be seen.

"Outside the Box"
exhibition at Point Bank Blackbox Theater
Visual Arts Society of Texas (VAST) member and Denton artist, Carol Stoecker, currently has an exhibit of paintings at the POINTBank Black Box Theater until July 10. A prolific artist, Carol operates a full time art studio where she produces an average of 2 pieces per week. She also teaches painting classes and does outside commercial and residential mural work.
Her display at the Black Box Theater is saturated with color. The dramatic collection has been created simple in form to allow the emphasis to be on the strong contrasts of vibrant colors. The vivid images have been created for someone whose soul is yearning for a striking piece that brings their emotions to life and gives them a blast of energy.
Carol recently had her pet portraits accepted in an exhibition at Highland Village beginning May 21, and she was chosen to exhibit two pieces of art at the Historic Nash Farms in Grapevine.
July 10 - Oct 9, Terry Karloff
