An increased public recognition of the need for behavioral health treatment is one of the top trends in behavioral health care for 2022, an expert says. Jason Washburn, PhD, MA, is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine as well as a member of the board of advisors at Owl. His research interests include nonsuicidal self-injury, suicide, and implementation of psychological practices. HealthLeaders recently asked Washburn about the top behavioral health trends for 2022. With strengthened provider data sharing employed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and new interoperability standards applied, 95% of all survey respondents in Q1 2022 expect an increase in related data expenses for health systems and integration problems with vendors. Less than 4% of all respondents foresee any governmental incentives for providers that actively participate in the information-blocking rule fixes in the next calendar year.
As the Biden administration continues to move Medicare reimbursement from volume-based payment to payments based on value, officials are expanding those efforts to include providers who care for “traditional” Medicare patients and currently bill under a fee-for-service system.
