The American Hospital Association (AHA) has launched its Health Equity Roadmap, a resource to support hospitals and health systems. The road map consists of three parts: an equity transformation assessment, a customized action plan and a virtual community of peers. The resource is meant to meet providers where they are in their equity journey, the organization said in a press release. “The bottom line is this: Accelerating efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion is the right thing to do for patients, communities and organizations, and for the entire health care system,” said Rick Pollack, AHA president and CEO, in the announcement.
Accountable care organizations (ACOs) participating in the Medicare program have had their share of challenges making their finances work, and nowhere is that more true than for rural ACOs.
“Rural ACOs have found out that there are some big adjustments that need to be made to the risk adjuster,” including in Medicare’s new ACO Realizing Equity, Access, and Community Health (ACO REACH) model, said Bill DeMarco, president of Pendulum HealthCare Development, a Rockford, Illinois-based consulting firm. “People are complaining about risk adjusters not being as fair and balanced as they would like them to be."

With burnout at an all-time high and staff shortages on the rise, appropriate care helps health systems stay on track and care for their patient populations more effectively. What is considered an “appropriate” definition?Overall, appropriateness can be a complex concept for even the top quality improvement experts. The definition, considerations, and interpretations of appropriate care vary by nation.
