VETERAN SPOTLIGHT

Rodney served in the United States Army after 20 years with 8 deployments. He earned the maroon beret in 1999, taking him to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC, and then became a Communications Sergeant after a few years. Rodney earned the Green Beret and the Special Forces tab taking him to 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Military Free Fall Instructor at Yuma Proving Grounds, and retired from 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). Now, Rodney is a co-owner of A+R Tactics, A tactical training facility open to civilian, military, and law enforcement.

This is a new section that introduces Veterans in the community. Send us suggestions for who we should highlight next week.

MEASURE WOULD ALLOW VA TO GIVE CORONAVIRUS VACCINE TO ANY VETERAN AND MOST CAREGIVERS Any veteran or their caregiver would be eligible to receive a coronavirus vaccine at Veterans Affairs medical centers under a new bipartisan proposal unveiled Wednesday. READ MORE

SECRETARY ORDERS REVIEW OF VA'S TRANSGENDER POLICIES Earlier this week, Secretary Denis McDonough ordered a review of VA policies to ensure that transgender Veterans and employees do not face discrimination on the basis of their gender identity and expression. READ MORE

VA EXPECTING SURGE OF VETERANS NEEDING CARE AS PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS EASE Anticipating a surge in veterans seeking medical care after the pandemic ends, Department of Veterans Affairs officials said Wednesday that $17 billion marked for the VA in the Biden administration's $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill is needed so that it can continue providing all eligible veterans treatment. VBH Squads! We are considering introducing a new program as a COVID-safe alternative to our regular in-person events. These would be small groups of 4-8 people that meet regularly to hang out and discuss shared interests (sports, movies, food, etc.). These Squads can be virtual, or in-person based on groups' comfort level.
